SEPTEMBER

~

Bailey pushed her way through the crowded lounge room, planning on heading out the back with Zach to watch beer pong; that was where she guessed he was. She jumped when an hand clamped around her arm, spinning around to find Justin.

'Is your car still here?' He asked.

'Never was. Drew got a lift here, Zach picked me up from home and we're staying at Jeff's tonight,' She shook her head.

'Fuck.'

He rolled his head to the side slightly as he looked back at the party around them, a blank look on his face as he sighed.

'What's going on?' She asked.

'I feel like shit,' He groaned.

'I'm not having this conversation with you again.'

'Please, Bay.'

'Fine. I'm getting you some water and we're going to sit outside. Ok?'

He nodded, letting her take his hand as she lead him to the kitchen. Bailey refilled her water bottle, shoving it into his chest before she took him out the back; pushing him down in a seat by the beer pong. She stood beside him, watching the game at hand between two sophomores and two juniors. Zach stood over with Monty and Scott, gossiping like school girls as they eyed off some freshmen girls by the pool.

The girl rolled her eyes, leaning on the back of the chair behind Justin. She took her jacket off and placed it around the boy's chair, fixing her jumpsuit. She reached into her pocket when her phone began to buzz, answering it without looking. But she wandered to the far corner of the backyard, unable to hear what Jeff was saying.

'What'd you say?' She asked when she could finally hear.

'Bailey,' A voice replied that was not Jeff's.

'Who is this? Why have you got Jeff's phone?'

'Bailey, there's been an accident.'

Her heart sunk into her stomach.

'W-What?' She choked out.

'It's really bad. You have to get here,' The voice gushed; 'The ambulance is on their way.'

'Where?'

'At the corner of Tanglewood and Bay Street.'

She didn't bother replying as she jogged toward Justin, ripping her jacket from behind him. She couldn't hear the people calling out to her, but she knew they were there. Her chest felt like it was being ripped apart, panic sitting heavy in her stomach. She bolted up the road, pulling her jacket on as she went.
