SEPTEMBER

~

The week rolled by as though it were normal, but to Bailey, it was a living hell. Each day dragged by, bringing yet another of school work and forced smiles. She hated it, but she knew there was nothing she could do. She kept herself busy with schoolwork and extra credit stuff, trying to bring her GPA up from it's low point on the scale. But, as Friday came to settle upon them, it all began to fall apart.

Bailey laid in bed starring up at the ceiling, tears falling down into her hair. Her heart ached, and there was nothing more she wanted to do then to curl up into a ball and disappear. One year. Three hundred and sixty five days with Drew or Jeff in her life. And she still hated it as much as the day it'd happened. There was a soft knock on the door, Jenny sniffling as she stuck her head in the door.

'Oh, baby,' She whispered.

'Mama,' Bailey croaked.

She began to sob as Jenny rushed toward her, her hand covering her mouth as her body shook. Jenny raised her up to lay against her chest, holding her close as she cried into her hair. She gripped the woman's arms, holding them close as she cried into them. She didn't want this day to be real. It hurt too bad.

A yell came from the kitchen with a loud crash, the pair shooting up from the bed to rush down the hall. There, stood Harris in the middle of the kitchen surrounded by shattered plates and pans, his head low as his shoulders shook gently. Bailey's hands covered her mouth as she cried quietly, Jenny walked carefully toward her husband with her bare feet stepped through the ceramic pieces on the tiles.

The Matthews girl watched on as the couple hugged one another, wondering for a second if her own parents were doing the same. But, as quickly as the thought came, it disappeared; leaving her in the present with tears streaming down her face. There was a soft knock at the front door before it opened, Tony stepping into the house. She turned to him, running into his arms; stuffing her face into his jacket, sobbing harder in the arms of her best friend.

Bailey stared blankly across the cafeteria, her meal untouched in front of her as she sat by herself; not in the mood to deal with the boys bullshit.

'Hey,' Clay sat across from her.

'Hey,' She looked down at her tray.

'I, uh, it's today, isn't it?'

'Shouldn't you know considering you were one of Jeff's close friends?'

'I wasn't- He really thought that?'

'Yeh. He really did.'

'Did you love him?'

'Jeff? Of course, a part of me will always love him.'
