JULY

Bailey slammed the front door behind her as she stomped into the house, successfully slamming it in her mother's face as she chased after her. She didn't react to the yelling coming from behind her, instead made her way upstairs to lock herself in her room. She stood in the middle of her dark room, staring at her bed as she ignored the knocks on the door behind her.
'Bailey, open this door,' Maria yelled.
'Fuck you,' She replied.
'Open this door, Bailey Drew. Or you can stay in there for the rest of the night.'
'Doesn't bother me if it keeps me the fuck away from you.'
She had been hanging out with Bryce when her mother had called, but she'd refused to answer her. So, she left Bryce and headed to Monet's on foot to grab a drink, ending up having an awkward conversation with Justin before she left. By the time she'd made it home, her mother was waiting down the end of the drive looking furious as she smoked a joint; yelling at her from the second she spotted her down the street.
Bailey knew she wouldn't have to wait long until she could sneak out and run over to the Atkins, the new arrangement she'd made with her second parents, allowing her to have a decent night's sleep before she ran back home in the morning. It was almost a win, win situation. But, she still had hours before she could sneak in the back door of the Atkins house.
Footsteps trailed away from her door, letting her relax ever so slightly as she moved to sit on her bed. She let out a soft sigh, running her hands down her face as she leant forward onto her knees. Her phone began to ring in her back pocket, but she didn't have the strength within her to pretend like she was ok. It fell silent for a second before it rang again, a huff leaving her nostrils as she pulled it out to answer it.
'What?' She snapped.
'Hey, it's just me,' Bryce's voice sounded in her ear; 'Are you ok?'
'Do I sound ok?'
'No. Bay, you know you can talk to me.'
'Yeh... Just got into a fight with Mum. I'm ok.'
'You don't sound it.'
'What do you want, Walker?'
'I just wanted to check on you, you seemed tense when you left.'
'Well, now you know why.'
'Look, I didn't want to upset you-'
'No, it's ok... I just- I'm not mad at you. Thanks for checking on me, but I kinda need to be alone.'
'Ok... If you need anything, call me, ok? I'm sure I can break you out.'
'I'm sure you could. Thanks.'
