Bailey wandered up the front steps of Bryce's grandfather's house, knocking gently on the front door. She glanced behind her to make sure no one was coming up the drive, before she turned back to the door as it unlocked. A woman she'd never seen before answered, her face visible through the crack she'd opened the door to. She smiled in greeting, tucking her hands into her pockets. 

'How can I help you?' The woman's African accent shone in her words. 

'I'm here to see-' She was cut off by the very boy she was there for. 

'Amara, is that Bailey?' Bryce approached the door; 'Hey.'

'Hi.'

'Come in.'

Amara nodded to the boy, stepping out of the way to let the Matthews girl in. She stepped into the house, taking it all in once more as Amara wandered away; leaving them to themselves. 

'You look better,' Bryce nodded to her. 

'So do you,' She chuckled. 

'You hungry? Amara just cooked me some lunch.'

'Uh, yeh. Sure.'

She followed him to the large kitchen, sitting on one of the stools as he moved around to serve her a plate. 

'How've you been?' She asked. 

He sighed, 'Still like shit... Just good to be away from that bloody school for longer.'

'What about practice?'

'Don't have to put up with them for long.'

'I guess.'

She took the plate from him, slowly beginning to eat as he stood before her; picking away at his own plate. 

'My mother isn't going to come home any time soon, so you can relax a little,' He suggested. 

'I'm not worried,' She muttered. 

'You are.'

'She doesn't like me, especially not after what happened.'

'She doesn't have to like you, you're my friend. You're welcome under this roof as long as you are.'

'You shouldn't consider me a friend.'

'Why?'

She knew what she wanted to say, but she couldn't put it into words. So, she shrugged instead.

'Bay, this is me trying to make it up to you,' He stated; 'Trying to show that I am changing, that I can change. I don't want to be that monster anymore.'
