I'm trying not to make this entire thing Kaiston but someone expressed interest in the Kai artist headcanon I had and I actually had a good idea for that sooooo

I should also stop writing AUs and write material that follows the canon huh?

Also anyone want to see how angsty I can get with one of those oneshots?? I've been testing my writing limits and I kinda just want to write something like that...?

Strokes of the pencil to capture his soft fine hair- no, too many streaks now. His floofy hair looks strange.

Kai frowned and flipped his pencil in his fingers, using the pinpoint eraser to clear some of the wayward pencil marks. He smiled softly at the graphite smirk that his subject had on his paper. He loved the way that the soft greyscale somehow still managed to capture the bold colors and fluid movement of his subject.

He's so amazing. He looks hot without even doing anything out of the ordinary, dear goodness.

"What are you doing?"

"GAH!" the not-Spero jumped at Quinston's inquiry. He hadn't realized the green-eyed wonder had approached him and he fumbled with his sketchbook as he tried to shut it and not drop it onto the dirty ground.

The small book of paper fell out of Kai's grasp.

"Shoot-"

Quinston's porcelain hand caught the sketchbook just before it touched the dry ground underneath his bench. Their eyes met and Kai's face immediately started to burn.

"Thanks, Quinston," he said gratefully, "can I please have that back?"

The brunette smirked, making Kai have a sinking feeling as well as make his heart flutter traitorously.

"Don't you dare blackmail me-"

"I'll give it back if I can look."

The red-black-haired boy groaned and cringed internally. One does not just ask if they can look at your drawings! It is not safe for the artist's sanity!

"T-They're really bad, you don't want to, I promise," Kai assured his (boy)friend in a vain attempt to retrieve his sketchbook without harming Quinston like he would the other Spero if they tried to steal his possessions like this.

Quinston rolled his emerald eyes. "I'm sure that's not true. You don't normally have a sketchbook on you if you're not somewhat passionate about art, and if you're passionate about something then you normally practice it and you're fairly good at it," his explanation was far too accurate and his humored, victorious smirk was far too convincing. Kai sighed in defeat and waved his hand before crossing his arms unhappily.

"Fiiine, go ahead..."

The Magiclica boy's face flickered with doubt before slowly sitting down next to the not-Spero and placing the smaller-than-average drawing booklet between their laps.

Quinston gave Kai a shy, genuine smile that only seemed to appear when they were together. "If you don't want me to look at one, just tell me, alright?" Then he flipped open the plastic cover and thumbed to the first drawing.

Immediately Quinston drew a breath. Kai closed his eyes and tensed his shoulders, already knowing the criticism that was going to come. He had shown his drawings to his fellow Spero before, but they never actually paid attention to the sketches (most often of themselves in a cool pose using their power, since the dynamics and movements were Kai's favorite thing to draw) and brushed off him off easily.

"Kai, wow, these are..."

Stupid? Sloppy? Anatomically inaccurate?

"...Amazing! I had no idea you were such a good artist!"

His green eyes shone as he quickly flipped between a few drawings. Kai's blush only grew as he recognized each individual drawing, immediately spotting the imperfections in the graphite streaks.

"I don't recognize most of these people- oh wait, Reina, right?" Quinston had found a portrait of the negation Spero in a fierce battle pose. Kai had snapped a picture as he watched a training skirmish between her and one of the other Spero. The tan boy nodded as Quinston flipped to the next page.

Kai gasped loudly and covered the picture. "Actually, you shouldn't see this one!" He panicked. It was not a bad drawing (it was actually one of Kai's personal favorites) but Ichiro had made him swear to show it to no one or he would allow Haiden to let loose with unrelenting prankage.

Quinston gave Kai a mildly concerned look before they both broke into smiles.

"Whatever you say, Kai," Quinston chuckled.

The two continued to flip through Kai's sketchbook, the owner of it becoming decreasingly awkward as Quinston inquired about the origin of most pieces. Kai completely forgot about his in-progress sketch until the brunette flipped the page and revealed a rough but clearly identifiable figure of none other than himself.

Quinston's surprised look was priceless. Kai's face immediately morphed into his embarrassed panic (which was honestly his second most-seen facial expression, especially around his crush.)

"I-I can explain!"

The fair-skinned boy's face was tinted pink but his genuine smile seemed to put the sun to shame with its radiance.

"You're amazing," Quinston whispered and leaned his head on Kai's shoulder. "Thank you,"

"O-Oh," Kai whispered at his action before smiling himself. "You too,"

Then he picked up his pencil and flipped to a new page. He may not know exactly how to draw this, considering he wasn't looking from the outside, but Kai had a feeling Quinston would appreciate it like he did no matter what.
