Magiclicas Nonsense

Me, Ranting About Jax at 5:30 AM

I started this when I woke up but then had more notifications than usual that I needed to respond to so now I'm on the bus at 7 writing this but ehhhhh

Jax has a lot of potential as a character, don't get me wrong.

At the same time, his development was kind of lacking??

He was there for the first few episodes, then we barely saw him and I honestly sort of forgot he existed until he joined the Spero on like episode 15-ish?? But there was five or six episodes we saw nothing of him. The teachers have probably gotten more screen time, but Jax was literally the second main character we were introduced to besides Mel

Even though we were all like "No Jax!" When he joined the Spero I think there could have been potential for us to be like "NO JAX!" Like we did when Chase died. If Jax had maybe just a little more screen time?? So some viewers didn't forget about his existence like I did??

I know that sort of makes a point about Melissa's transition from Cipher to Magiclica but at the same time... IDK.

I think if Jax has been able to tag along on a few more of Mel's adventures, even if just literally as a tagalong like for the rescue-Mel's-parents-operation and had to be protected and taken care of by the Magiclicas, it would have given him some more depth.

Another thing could have been that Jax tried to hang out with the Eversingers to be closer to Mel?? Because those few scenes between Jax and Kylie I honestly think we're really interesting and Jax could have had some positively complex relationships between the Eversingers. I don't think he would join himself, but being a friend and hanging out with them nonetheless? Maybe he sort of compensated for Mel in some way?? Because although Mel is rather close with the Eversingers, she's part of the club and that's it. She hangs out more with Quinston and Ivy and Chase in her free time, while it seems the Eversingers are close inside and out of club and do other activities with each other besides perform (Lucas and Zana, and Kylie and Connor once dated)

Also I'm including Connor in this because although he's a Magiclica, he's only been shown with the Eversingers and not any other friend group so I think it's safe to say before he got acomatized (eh eh MLB anyone? I'll stop) he was in just as close or almost so with the rest of the Eversingers.

Anyway-
The only problem with this is that I think Jax's motives to join the Spero might be altered if either scenario had happened.
If Jax were to have spent more time with the main Magiclica cast, I think he might have joined so he didn't have to be so useless on their adventures
If he spent time with the Eversingers, I think he might have joined so that he could stand up for them, because technically that's what the Spero is about- equal rights for Ciphers, so that they aren't pushed around and treated as inferior to Magiclicas.
Either way, his motives for joining the Spero wouldn't be fully for the selfish reason that his BFF ditched him. That was kind of a petty move and although he had a right to be mad at her, he could have handled the conflict a lot better than becoming a criminal and trying to kidnap Melissa and worrying the heck out of his mom.

Jax, you maybe should have thought ahead a little more...

He still could have tried to kidnap Mel even if she wasn't his full reason for joining the Spero because he could still totally hold a grudge against her and felt little to no remorse about what he was trying to do. That just wouldn't be his only reason for trying to do it.

So yeah. There's my two cents on Jax.

I'm fairly sure Jax's development changed significantly somewhere in the process of writing, because Jax seemed to have some sort of different arc before he totally dropped off and wasn't seen for episodes. What about the sword he had in the intro?!?!?! Somewhere there's a clip of Ivy saying she can enchant a sword for him, but that's never actually followed through. I think Jakey once said somewhere that Jax was supposed to have a crush on Mel too but that never happened (thank goodness Mel has enough boy trouble as it is)

So yeah. I'm curious to see what happens to Jax next in the not-season 2 (since there's nothing confirmed still...) cause y'know Ichiro is dead-dead and all...

Also fun fact- in "Get to Know Quinston and Kai!" Kai is shown holding a sword (Aaron's sword from MCD but technically it's just from CustomNPCs/VariedCommedities) as well as using his yellow aura?! Neither were ever actually shown, at least I don't think. We've only seen Kai using mostly his red aura and his green aura during the winter formal. There are a lot of clips from those teasers that were never actually used...
