Tbh I ship Casey and Mel more than Chalissa. I just feel like they have better chemistry and better matched personalities. I mean maybe Reborn Chase has a completely new personality still (honestly I'd LOVE a bad boy Chase) but like... Normal Chase just isn't Melissa's type I feel
Doesn't mean I won't write Chalissa, just a personal opinion.
Also ooooooo new POV because I've done a lot of Mel's. Also I feel like I've done angsty Mel a lot but that's literally her character half the time soooo

Casey hated his life right now.
Chase was dead. His mom was dying. Soon he would be moving in with his dad who he barely knew but was the only remains of his shattered family. He had been preparing for his mom to leave for a long time now, and the only thing he had been looking forward to was that Chase was going to be there again. They may not have had the best relationship, but Casey loved his brother with all his heart.
Except that now he's gone too.
Being strong was hard. He had been strong for so long now. The kids at Kroutyce he was always trying to keep impressed hadn't known what was going on until Casey told them he was moving about two and a half weeks ago.
Two weeks since Chase died.
Everston had cancelled classes since then, although they would be starting up again shortly.
Casey knew he should stay strong for everyone else; Chase had been a student at this school and had friends closer to him than his brother- but Casey wasn't sure would be able to, especially in front of Melissa.
Melissa. That blue-haired girl that his brother liked that played his heart like a toy. Although Casey couldn't blame Chase; he too had fallen for her hidden strength and gentle touch. She was alluring, and Casey didn't think she even realized how so.
But he had pushed those feelings aside so Chase could have her. Casey was glad he did, so that maybe his brother could have felt loved like that at least once before his time was up.
But it hadn't been up. If it hadn't been for that demone scuro that called itself an excuse for a man named Ichiro, Chase would still be here, alive and well to make up with and joke around in his new home!
Casey let out a heavy sigh and watched the raindrops slide down the window. It was a fitting scene for his miserableness. He was in his hotel room in Everston, visiting his father before moving in completely and attending the funeral for Chase. Neither Casey nor his father could bring themselves to stay together for long periods of time, so Casey had rented a hotel room close to the Academy. He could barely see the vague mass of the grand three-story building from his hotel room in the grey mist of the rain.
His phone buzzed on the table. He had been keeping it on vibrate ever since Chase died, so it was easier to ignore if he wanted to.
Casey slowly reached from the armchair by the window to the table that was just within his reach.
Melissa: Can I come visit?
Casey blinked. He had given Melissa his phone number when they had made up after the musical, but he never expected her to actually text. He sent a confirmation and continued to silently look out the window.
There was the ethereal ringing of magic being used, and he glanced over to see the bluenette appear in his room through a portal. She stumbled and tripped and Casey jumped up to catch her.
"Are you alright?" Casey had been continuously surprising himself with how normal he sounded.
His heart cracked as she slowly looked up at him with tears in her eyes and shining streaks down her cheeks. She blinked, before burying her face into his shoulder.
"It's my fault, it's my fault he's gone and- and- I can't tell anyone what happened, and—"
"Shhh, hey Melissa, it's alright, it's okay..."
"It's not, Casey. He took the spell for me. I should be dead, not him, it would be better if I was dead instead because I couldn't hurt anyone, no one could use me like they want to, and people wouldn't be so sad because I'm just some adopted Cipher girl who keeps causing problems, and people are being hurt by me and I don't mean to, and this mess is all my fault..."
Casey questioned some of the things she was venting about. He took the spell for her? Casey thought that Ichiro had blasted his brother for the White Stone, not Melissa. And who wanted to use her? For what? He wanted to ask, to find the answers of what happened that night, but seeing Melissa so distressed... Casey knew it wasn't the time.
"Melissa, it's not your fault. It's really not. It was Ichiro, he was the one that used the spell. And it was a spell that you couldn't counter, couldn't reverse. Trust me, I've tried thinking of ways to bring him back."
Casey had spent sleepless nights thinking of every possibility to either have saved his brother from the curse or to reverse it. He had done the same for his mom, although his chances had been higher with her. When the news released the full report and someone had revealed that the spell used had been "etibititn senpaitonum," he knew it was a lost cause. Crude words, but effective. "Begone forever" in mind, body, and soul. Some speculate a death from that meant you wouldn't even go to an afterlife, if there was one, because then you might still have a possibility of returning eventually, according to some beliefs.
Melissa had stopped crying now, although she still looked mentally and emotionally exhausted. Casey didn't blame her. He had spent nights on end crying for far too long now.
"I'm sorry I couldn't be strong... when he or you needed it..."
"Stop apologizing Mel. You're incredibly strong. You've had a crazy school year so far, from what I've heard. You're a Magiclica when you weren't before, your parents were kidnapped for a time, you were kidnapped by the Spero- Chase told me all this. He loved talking nonstop about your adventures with you. And even though he's... he's gone, you're still getting around, giving news interviews and talking to the COM. I don't think anyone else I know could do that stuff without breaking down. You're a beautiful, strong, independent woman that doesn't deserve what you're going through." Casey was speaking his heart, but he immediately regretted it once he said that last part.
Compliments? Beautiful? She's still grieving. I'M still grieving. Now is not the time to make a move, Casey, you idiot!
Melissa was looking at him with a ghost of a smile of her face but not seeing with her eyes.
"You look so much like him..." she whispered.
Casey was hurt the only reason she took notice of him was his resemblance to his twin brother, but he understood it and let it happen. As long as he might be able to help Melissa recover, he would be happy.
I guess that's what Chase felt, watching her and that Cipher boy be together. I love the irony I've put myself into. Karma.
Melissa shook her head slightly, her forest green gaze become more focused, but not any brighter.
"I should go, my parents will be getting worried. I'm sorry for bothering you-" Melissa said somewhat harshly, standing up from their huddled position on the floor. She muttered a spell and a portal opened up for her to walk through.
Casey stood up as well, silently wishing for her delicate warmth just a little longer. "It's fine. We all need a shoulder to lean on. I'm here if you need me, alright?" He offered.
She glanced over her shoulder at him. Unlike her smile before, this one wasn't so sad. While it still was somewhat- it would be for a while- there was also the softest hint of gratitude. Maybe even hope, or something more, although Casey wasn't that good at reading emotions.
"Right. Thank you, Casey. You too."
She stepped through the portal and the grieving girl was gone, and Casey was left alone to his thoughts and the rain once more.
