Laura's POV
I'd never been told anything like that. That girl took my words and how I acted, and twisted them to hurt me instead of her. I didn't know what to do and had never been so embarrassed. I ran to the bathroom and slumped against a wall, not caring if my new leggings got dirty. I sat there for about 5 minutes by myself, thinking and evaluating myself before I heard someone come in. I looked up to see the girl, Logan, I thought was her name. I gave her glare and sighed, "What do you want?" I said with all the anger I had. I felt a tear on my cheek and brushed it away before she could see.
Logan sat down next to me. "Laura, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that or acted like that. I was a little mad because I've had to deal with girls that think they rule the school and treat everyone like garbage. I really hate it, and when you started it made me mad. I should've just talked to you by yourself, not in front of the whole school."
I didn't know what to say, I was more shocked right now then when she said the things in the lunchroom. No one that had been rude to me had ever apologized to me without being forced, let alone with such concern and honesty. My mouth just hung open until I took a breath and sat up straighter. "Why? Why are you apologizing? I deserve the embarrassment. I've been rude to the whole school plus some, I deserve it."
Logan shook her head, "No, that's not how it is. God created you and I shouldn't be making fun of you or downgrading you. Especially in front of people. No ones perfect, I mean, we're sinners, and that includes me, but I can't control what you do. However, I can control what I do, so I'm apologizing to you."
I nodded a little, starting to understand. "I don't know what to say. No one has ever treated me like this, like a real person, and I don't know how to take it."
Logan looked at me concerned and gave me a half-side hug, which I could tell made her uncomfortable. "You don't have to say anything. Just think about it or something. Bu as for no one treating you like this, surely someone has. Your parents? Siblings? Friends?"
I about burst into tears as I explained. "My Dad left us when I was born. He didn't want a girl, so he left. Mom started drinking and smoking after that, and don who knows what, so most of time he only thing I hear her say is things out of her drunk mouth about me being stupid and not worth anything. As for friends, I don't have any. I have people that follow me so they can either be popular or I don't know what else." Logan have me a sad smile, trying to be encouraging. "Laura, you can't let people like that define your worth. I'm sorry about your parents. If you ever want to hang out or talk or something. I'm here for you. I'd love to help if you want." I was totally shocked, I couldn't be more surprised. She was actually offering to help me.
"Yeah, I'd love to talk some more. Umm, can I get your phone number then?" I asked nervously, afraid that this whole thing was a joke.
She shrugged "Yeah, can I see your phone then?" I have her my phone and she put in her number and I texted her so she had mine. "Ok, cool!" She said happily. She stood up and put her hand out for me to help me up, "We'd better go get ready for class. Bell will ring soon." She said and I nodded. We walked out together and went to class. People stared at me and laughed and whispered, but I didn't care now. I had a friend.
