"Man, and I thought we had it bad."

Rainn's P.O.V.
(May 11, 1953)

Two-bit smiled, "Well now you have to tell us."

"I don't know if I really want to tell you how messed up my life is." I played with my finger nails.

Two-bit started, "Your life can't be all that messed up."

I laughed, "Trust me it is."

"Then tell us." Two-bit pushed.

I sighed, "5 years ago, my mom and dad started fighting all the time, that was when my mom found out about my dad beating me. They used to fight, but it was like 2 fights a month, when they started really getting bad, I was shocked. Their love was like a painting, only showing what they wanted me and my sister to see. My sister, Princess, was my dads favorite, she never did anything wrong, she didn't get beat, straight A's in school, she was the perfect child. Then my dad started beating my mom saying if she told he would kill us.  Somehow my mom told and my dad got in jail, then killed himself in jail. My sister, well, even though he did things to me and my mom, she couldn't handle his death, and then killed herself. My mom became a drunk and shit. She stopped caring about me and more about herself. She became a lowlife and sleeping with every guy then paid her. Soon after, I became known as a basket case, with a dead dad, sister, and a drunk as a mother. I started drag racing, and doing anything that was illegal, which is where I got the money to pay for my thunder-bird out there." I paused, pointing out the window behind me, "I got tired of my mom, so I left, and that's why I'm here, just trying to get away from the bitch herself."

I looked around then back down. "Man, and I thought we had it bad." Steve laughed, and I did too, "Like I said, I'm a basket case." I heard a timer go off in the kitchen. Sodapop jumped up walking to the kitchen, "FOOOOOODS DONE!" He yelled, everyone but me ran into the kitchen to get food. I stayed on the couch. "Are you going to get food, Rainn?" Sodapop said walking in wiping his hands. I nodded, "No, but thank you." He rolled his eyes, smiling, "Yes you are. I made my famous mac n cheese, but it's green." I looked at him strangely, "Green?" He laughed, "Yeah, come on." I shook my head getting up.

I followed after Sodapop. He made himself a plate then made me one. He handed it off to me, "Why thank you." Then he gave me a fork. He sat down at the table, while I jumped on the counter. I started eating while listening to the conversation at the table.

"Me and Soda are taking the girls to the Nightly-Double, as a double date. You want to come with Sylvia?"

"Nah, man, she was 2-timing me while I was in jail. It's cool though."

"Rainn, you want to come?" I look over at the table finding Steve looking at me, "What?" "Do you want to come to the Nightly-Double with me and Soda and our girlfriends? You can get out and see what's around here." I shook my head, "You do know that I'm not staying right?" He looked at me crazy, "What do you mean you ain't staying?" "I'm going where ever my car takes me, I can't stay." "And why can't you?" He challenged me. "I don't have a place to stay, if I were to stay, and I need to find somewhere I can drag race." "Why don't you stay here?" "Steve this ain't your house." Darry chinned in. "See Steve, now I have to go." "Darry, just let her stay here for a few days." I look at Steve with wide eyes, "Are you crazy? I can't stay here. I can't bother them like that." "Why not? I mean we all do it." He looked around the table and the others nodded in agreement.

"Listen, it ain't a choice Rainn, you are staying here, with no buts." Two-bit started laugh, "Two-bit shut it." Steve demanded. "You said butt." Two-bit choked out. I chuckled a little, while everyone else did. "Darry, can she though?" Sodapop said looking at him. Darry looked back at me then to him, "I don't see why not." Steve high-fived Soda. "Thank you Darry, but you really don't have to." "You don't need to be driving, take a break." I smiled. I put my plate in the sink. "Oh, before I forget, on Roseway St., every Friday and Saturday there are drag races that you can enter." Steve added. I nodded, "Good to know."

"Do you guys need anything? I'm going to the store to get somethings." They nodded 'no'. "Okay great, now where is the store?" Sodapop got up putting his plate away, "I'll take you, come on." I nodded. I followed him out of the house and walked up to the car, "Here," I gave him the keys, "One little thing scratch and I'll kill you." I got in the passengers seat. "Why are you going to the store if we have things at the house?" I laughed, "You are boys, and boys don't go through the same thing as girls." He nodded, "True."

---back at the Curtis'---

I walked in behind Sodapop with bags in my hand. I was laughing at a joke he told right before we got inside. He also had bags in his hand, "I don't know if you guys like chocolate ca-" Two-bit and Steve came running for me. "What da'  hell is wrong with you?!" I yell running past them. I went in the kitchen taking it out of the bag and giving it to them, "Dang." I mumbled to myself.

I got the other bags getting my toothbrush and paste, then walking back outside to put back things that I didn't need. "Hey." I heard from behind me. I turned around to see Dally standing there with a cancer stick between his lips. "Hey." He looked around then back at me, "Look broad, I wanted to ask if you wanted to go to the nightly double with me. When you go with Soda and Steve." I rised an eyebrow, "You haven't said a word to me all night and that is the first thing you ask?" "Ah, feisty, just how I like them." "I ain't going to be a 'them'." I close the car door and try to walk past him but he held onto my arm, "Will you please just go with me? I ain't going to do anything to you, I just want them to get off my back." "Them?" He pointed to the window of the Curtis' house. I got a glance of them before they all duck from the window.

"Fine, but just this one date." He smirked and took a drag from his smoke. He walked away.

Note to self: Don't fall in love with that guy.
