The days had gone by smoothly, I was feeling like myself again, well as much as I could with this growing belly attached to me. Even though there was no need to hide my belly anymore, I still wore a big t-shirt, my jeans were starting to get too small, I might move to sweatpants soon. We finally told Scout the baby news and he was ecstatic, he mentioned this one was going to be a girl, since the last one was a boy. I didn't understand his logic, but I was fine either.
The maintenance around the warehouse was minimal, John found me a hat similar to his so I could continue working outside without the sun draining my energy too quickly. I was noticing a big brimmed hat was pretty nice to have. I always wondered why John and Carl wore their's all the time, I get it now. Not only did I help set a few of the traps Morgan had wanted set, but I also helped with the fence, more so being the one that hammered nails. I worked in the garden alot of days, I worked hard to make it thrive, and damn it, it was thriving. We were getting a slow but steady cycle of produce.
Today on this day, I decided I wanted to have lunch with my boys, Scout would be a little later than Daryl but he would be here. I had finished my last job, and headed outside with my lunch, waiting for my boys. I sat down at one of the picnic tables, laying out my lunch, when I looked over at the door seeing Daryl.
"Nice day today." I said sweetly looking at him with a smirk, taking a bite of my sandwich.
"Beautiful." He said simply as he looked at me.
We ate silently enjoying each other's company, sharing some chips, Daryl even brought me a folder full of scrap paper so we doodled together. Eventually Scout joined us.
"Hey kid." Daryl smiled as Scout sat down.
"Hungry?" I asked.
"Of course." Scout grumbled reaching for the last sandwich in the basket.
"How's training going?" I asked.
"Pfft!" Scout rolled his eyes. "Ginger cries everytime I smack the stick out of her hands, then Eddie won't protect his face." Scout complained.
"I noticed Eddie had a new bruise on his face." Daryl chuckled a little.
"You gotta lighten up a bit on these kids Scout, they haven't lived like you have." I explained.
"They don't know how to use a gun, or a bow. I know we are low on ammo, but I really want to teach them." Scout said with concern.
"How about you teach them slingshots, they are small and a little easier." I suggested. "Your dad and I can make some up for them."
"Really?" Scout said with a big smile.
"Anything for you." Daryl said simply.
"They'll be happy to see we aren't stick training." Scout laughed. Stick training was Morgan's area, he taught Scout, and the two of them were teaching the kids, and any teens or adults that wanted to learn. "We're sparring today."
"That's right, dad and I will have those slingshots done as quickly as we can so we can come watch." I smiled. "Here, take an apple before you go."
"Thanks Mom, thanks Dad." Scout came around the table giving Daryl and I both hugs, and of course we covered him in kisses before he ran off.
"I really like being a dad." Daryl said to me. "Especially to Scout that kid is just amazing." Daryl smiled.
"He's all you." I said with a small smirk. "Just with a little more discipline."
"Got that right." Daryl stated. "Let's get stuff together for those slingshots."
Daryl and I got up going inside up to the second floor where we kept all the supplies. Daryl collected antlers, and a hand saw, he planned on going out for some tree branches if we didn't have enough. I found thick and large rubber bands, and a lot of denim and leather scraps, so I also grabbed needles and thread. Daryl would assemble the slingshots, and I would make the pouches. After getting the supplies together we decided to walk past where Scout was sparring, with Morgan overseeing. Scout would wrestle kids teaching them various locks, and ways to get out of certain positions, he even taught them to fight, every kid on many occasions left with bruises, but every kid loved it; parents appreciated that they're kids could protect themselves if they needed to. Scout loved having other kids to play with, yeah I said play, training was play for him, because he already knew everything. That sounds cocky, but it was kind of true, sure he knew everything in self defense and protection, but school knowledge was different, he knew his letters, he could read, he could count and recognize numbers, but stuff like math, and writing skills he lacked in. June was teaching the kids, she was teaching them math, science, writing skills, even first aid.
