(Not Ready to Die- Avenged Sevenfold)
"Dad, Dad." I heard Scout mumbling in bed next to me. "Leave him alone!" Scout screamed, sitting up in bed wide awake.
"Scout hey, it was a dream, you're home safe." I quickly pulled him into my arms. "I'm so sorry I sent you out there, I should've waited longer."
"Don't be sorry mom, cause I'm not." Scout mumbled, I pulled back to look at him. "I wanted to know how the world really was, and now I do, and I'm ready for it. So what's the plan, how are we getting everyone back?" Scout asked confidently.
"How old are you?" I asked with a small smile.
"Only eight mom." Scout said confused.
"'Cause you sound older." I ruffled his hair.
----------
"We need to get a meeting together, with our group, in the office, we'll be there." I commanded of Morgan. I felt the slow creep of pain go through me, taking me by surprise, Morgan looking at me concerned for a moment.
"You alright?" Morgan asked eyeing me.
"I'm fine, just get everyone together." I ordered.
About fifteen minutes later our group arrived, Morgan, Alicia, June, Al, Luciana, along with Sarah and Wendell that I hardly saw anymore. Everyone quietly chattered among themselves, Scout looking at me, to tell me he was ready.
"Alright guys, we've pulled you all together to discuss our plans to get back our people." I announced.
"Yeah we leave like they want us to." Sarah blurted.
"How do we know they'll give us our people back if we leave?" Al asked.
"Someone would have to stay behind, but even that's risky." Luciana said.
"We have a plan, you just have to listen." I said over everyone.
"Why's Scout here?" Wendell asked.
"Because he-" I was about to explain.
"He should probably be out playing." June added.
"Shut the fuck up and listen!" I slammed my hands down on the table, my patience was non-existent at this point. "We have a plan, it's Scout's plan." I sighed heavily, feeling another wave of pain.
"How foolproof could a kids plan be, no offense." Alicia said toward Scout.
"Trust me, you'll want to hear this
I'm not saying this because he's my kid, I'm saying this because he's also Daryl's son, who thinks through a million outcomes before acting, something that Scout has inherited. So now listen up." I ordered. Scout stood up straightening his back, ready to explain the plan in the fullest detail he could possible."First we're going to pack up our stuff." Scout said confidently.
---------
Everyone was fully on board with Scout's plan, that they had to make minimal tweaks to. We packed everything, stripped the place bare of any sign of us, stuffing it all in a couple semi trucks, which would drive to our reckon point with our injured people, just in case. A handful of us would stay back ready to set off traps, and another group was ready to go in and grab our people; I wouldn't be one of these people.
Scout thoroughly explained which traps needed to be set, what they did, how they worked, and where they needed to be; everyone very amazed by the way Scout's mind worked. Everyone was armed, our people remaining in the warehouse all had guns, the remaining guns were distributed through the others that left. The part of the plan I was involved in was waiting in the tunnels to lead everyone, Scout was part of the traps in the halls, which in Scout's plan would be the least likely area the Outlaws would go.
Everyone knew that I was starting to go into labor, but I had to be here, I wanted to see them bring our people in. Morgan and June wanted me safe at the reckon point, but I couldn't just sit and wait, I needed to be a part of this. We were spread out around the warehouse, we didn't know how long we would have to wait, could be hours, we could be waiting days.
"The gates are open." I heard a familiar voice. Where I was hiding was completely out of sight, I peered around the corner to see who it was. I quickly drew back when I felt a wave of pain again.
"Check the place." Someone ordered. I sucked in a deep breath, trying to breathe through it, I then looked around the corner again when it passed, and saw a group of the Outlaws make their way inside, looking around the vacant warehouse.
"No one's here!" One man called back.
"Well spread out." Jed said annoyed, his men doing as they were told. "Bring them in."
A few of Jed's men began to bring in our people, Daryl, Victor, and John among them. I felt another wave of pain creep through my body, I tried to breathe and focus. The small group looked rough, beaten, dirty, in need of some serious care, I was mostly focused on Daryl trying to see what state he was in but I couldn't risk getting seen. That's when I heard the screams, then my team threw in the smoke grenades, and fireworks. I pulled on my gas mask, and got ready to lead everyone to the tunnels, again another wave of pain went through me, but disappeared again.
"Not now." I let out an exasperated breath.
I grabbed the first recognizable person I could, leading as many as I could to the tunnels, Alicia, and Luciana helped guide more my way. These tunnels went on for miles, we never actually found the end, but we did find exits. We would be taking the exit that came up a mile from a small secluded neighborhood that was our reckon. Another surge of pain came over me, but I pretended nothing was happening as Luciana approached me.
"Hey, how much further, some of them are in pretty rough shape." Luciana asked anxiously.
"Not far now. Did you see Daryl, is he back there?" I asked. I was worried, I hadn't seen him, and this baby was on its way.
"Oh, uh I don't know, I just glanced over everyone. Strand might know." Lucy fell back.
They got Victor, that was good, but what about John and Daryl? I was worried to see what further injuries there were in the group, seeing what they did to Scout, I'm sure was far worse with them. Before I got my answer, we arrived at our exit, I did the whistle, that was our signal, and Sarah opened the grate, and dropped down a ladder for us to climb up. I let out a long breath as another contraction hit me, then I went up first, since our rescued group wasn't very trusting at the moment. I got to the surface that was surrounded by trees and took a few steps back waiting to see Daryl; any minute now he would be the next person coming up that ladder.
I clenched my hands, chewing up the inside of my cheek, where was he? I couldn't ignore the next contraction, I pressed my back up against a tree, breathing deeply until it passed. I watched people come out of the tunnel one by one, still waiting for Daryl, even Victor came out first.
"Victor!" I quickly embraced him, happy to see him mostly unscathed.
"Miss Emily, it's good to see you again." Victor hugged me grateful.
"Have you seen Daryl?" I asked pulling away, placing a hand on my large belly.
"Yeah, but-"
"Hazel." I heard that familiar gruff voice say my name. I looked past Victor straight at my husband taking in his disheveled appearance, he was way worse than I had imagined. I didn't say anything, other then hug him; I wrapped my arms around him tightly, tears trickling down my cheeks, just happy to have him back, and that he was alive.
I was a little offended by the fact that he only wrapped one arm around me. I pulled back to look him over and horror struck through me when I saw his bandaged arm, only half of the arm still there.
