Sam looked down at his phone. 8:17. He let out a breath, almost a sigh. She was supposed to be out already. He was leaned up against his car, debating on whether he should wait in there where the heat would warm up his hands. He was interrupted by the slam of the door nearby. He looked up to see her rushing out of her house, with a pair of black heels in her right hand. He lost his breath looking at her. Seeing her blonde hair wrapped up into a ponytail and a white flared dress hugging her body. She was gorgeous. Every time he glanced at her, he was taken aback.
" Jess. You were supposed to be out fifteen minutes ago " Sam yelled, as she rushed down the stairs toward his car. Sam opened the passenger side door for her.
" Sorry. My parents wanted me to eat before I left " She let out a giggle as she stepped into the car. She always complained her parents were always on her back and overprotective of her. " They also wanted to know if you were picking me up. You know they don't trust anyone I hang around with except you "
" I always pick you up. They should know that " Sam laughed as he put the car in drive. They were headed to a party that Jess wanted to go to and Sam always did what Jess wanted to do. He always wanted her to be happy.
" That's why I am so glad we are friends " She said as she pressed a kiss to Sam's cheek. Sam's smile faltered, though. They would always be friends, I guess.

Jess had rushed into the crowd of people as soon as they had gotten into the house. Sam laughed at her. He went through the crowd, trying to find the kitchen through the sea of people. He knew he wouldn't find Jess for another half hour.
Finally, he reached the kitchen and went straight to the refrigerator to find a bottle of water. He unclasped the cap and took a sip from it. He walked through the sea of people to a space that wasn't invaded by anybody and leaned against the wall.
He took another sip of the water and looked around. Just at the people in general. His eyes spotted Jess though. She was dancing all by herself. Sam felt like he was in a teen movie all of a sudden. It felt like everything had gone into slow motion and that Jess was the only person in the room.
He snapped out of it quickly. They could never be more. She only thought of him as a friend. That's what they would always be. Friends.
Sam took another sip from the water and walked out from the door they had walked into earlier. There was a hill from afar that he could point out and started heading up there. When he reached, he sat down and brought his knees up to his chest.
" Sam. Why are you up here?" Jess asked, as she was laughing. She had one of the most beautiful laughs Sam had ever heard in his life.
" Just needed some air, I guess " He replied. She noticed, though. She could always tell when Sam was lying. She sat down next to him on the grass. She let her fingers graze the grass and picked pieces of it. She twiddled it between her fingers.
" Are you going to tell me what's really wrong? " She asked, looking at the side of his face. Sam kept this face towards the large forest in front of them. He let out a deep breath. How could he tell her?
His palms started to become sweaty and he wiped them on his jeans. He turned his whole body towards her and grabbed her hands in his. He let out another breath. He didn't know how he could tell her. They had known each other for so long. This could ruin what they had.
" I- " Sam started, but he couldn't get the sentence out. He was becoming more nervous at the second. He didn't want to ruin the friendship they had and he didn't want her to hate him.
" Spit it out, Sammy " She said, with worry in her eyes. She could tell how nervous he was and it was starting to make her nervous. She loved Sam so much and was afraid of what he was gonna tell her.
Sam was taken aback at the nickname that she rarely gave him. It was usually just when she was very nervous or was very upset about something. Sam took a deep breath and just decided he had to say it. It didn't matter what was gonna happen, he just had to get it off his chest.
" I don't want to be your friend, I want to kiss your neck " He whispered. He did it but the weight on his shoulders hadn't subsided. Jess had just sat there, with his hands still in her eyes, with widened eyes. Did Sam really just admit his feelings after so long?
" Oh my god, I am such an idiot. I am gonna leave and have someone pick you up, okay? I am so sorry I ruined this " Sam said, as tears were starting to build up in his eyes.
" Sam! You are not an idiot " Jess yelled, and ran towards him as he had already tried to leave from the situation. She brought her hands to his cheeks, but her hands were shaking. He grabbed her hands and closed his eyes to feel the warmth of her.
" I don't want to be friends either. I want to be more than that " She said, almost quieter than a whisper. As if she didn't want anybody to hear, except Sam and the trees planted in the ground.
Sam smiled and hugged her. She wrapped her hands around his neck, having to go on her tip toes to reach. He nudged his face into her neck, pressing a soft kiss against her, which sent a shiver up Jess' spine.
They let go of each other, though they didn't want to. Sam grabbed her hand, looking and playing with her hands. He let out a giggle of disbelief, as if how this girl could want to be with him. She wrapped her hand in his and they rushed to his car, where they would spend the whole night there listening to blues music.
