~Kaoru's POV~
Class dragged on, as usual, I stared up at the board as our teacher pointed to certain parts, explaining details. Telling us to write notes, which I did, occasionally. I glanced over to my brother, who looked like he was even less entertained than me. I then put my interest to Haruhi, who was scribbling down every word the teacher spoke. She was so zoned into the lesson, I really admire that about her. No wonder she's the top student.
My attention went back to the board when I heard the teacher clear his throat, and clap his hands together. "Now, class," he began rather too enthusiastically, "I have prepared a group project. You have two weeks to research, and prepare a presentation on your given subject. I have assigned you your partners, in groups of two."
He shuffled through some notes on his desk, and smiled when he lifted up a piece of paper. I glanced around the room, hoping to be put with either Haruhi or Hikaru. I don't mind everyone else, but I'd rather not be stuck with a girl who is just drooling the entire time. I am at least semi serious about my grades. He had gone through half the list, and to my disadvantage Hikaru and Haruhi were paired together, so now I'm stuck with someone I won't know, or someone who won't even pay attention to the project. I sighed, then finally heard my name.
"Kaoru Hitachiin, you will be paired with (y/n)(l/n)." I sat up, scanning the room. I feel like I know that name, but I couldn't put a face to it. It didn't help I don't see anyone making their way over her-
"Kaoru?"
I jolted, as I felt a pair of slender finger grace my shoulder. I turned my head to see a girl with (h/l)(h/c) hair, and (s/c) skin. She had (e/c) eyes that looked down warmly at me. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you!" She took the seat beside mine, as I shook my head. "No, it's fine I wasn't paying attention." I smiled to her.
Strange, she must be one of the few girls who don't visit the host club. She wasnt freaking out with being paired with me, nor trying to get my attention desperately.
She held out a piece of paper, I took it and read what was written. "For our project, we have to do a report on the history of Japan. How it has changed and developed over the years." She leaned forward, pointing to some of the topics possible for our project. "Fashion, hierarchy, government. Or multiple." She finished, leaning back again and staring deep into me.
"Hm, interesting enough. Though, we won't have enough class tome to figure this all out and get it out together." I said, resting my head into my palm. She nodded, quickly pulled her phone out of her bag and handed it to me.
"If you don't mind, give me your number, I'll text you my address and you could come over this weekend? And maybe during the week we can work in the library."
I hesitantly grabbed her phone, and dialed in my number, and quickly gave her back the device. She smiled down at the screen, and shut her phone.
She opened her mouth to speak, but the bell interrupted her. She closed her mouth, gave me a heartwarming smile, then left.I was jolted again by my brother grabbing my shoulders, and shaking me out of my daze. "She was kind of cute, huh?" He grinned into my ear, as I nodded, staring at the door in which she left. "Yeah, it's strange how we hardly know her, huh?"
~End of day, at the Host club~
We finished our host duties, and I heard the ding of my phone. I opened it up, only to smile lightly at the screen.
Unknown Number
Hello, Kaoru! This is (f/n)(l/n), if you are still up to working on the project at my place I live at 2684 Princeton ln. Can't wait :)I closed my phone, and stuffed it into my pocket as I returned my attention to my brother, who seemed to be discussing his project plans with Haruhi. I smiled lightly at the scene, seeing Tamaki pouting in the background, mumbling on and on about how 'it's not fair.'
I have to admit, I was a tad bit excited to get to know (y/n).~~A few hours earlier, after school, (y/n's) POV)~~
"Mother, I'm home." I spoke out as I entered through the mansion doors, bowing to our butler as he shut them behind me. "Tsk." I heard my mother suck her teeth, coming down the stairs, and shaking her head towards me.
"A-Are you hungry?" I smiled weakly, as she sighed. "Just, I don't have time for you today. Your father has finally decided to arrange a lunch with me, and there we are to talk about you, and all the reasons why you ruined our marriage."
I bowed, lowering my head to the floor. No tears, though, because I was used to these harsh words by now. I had cried them all out while I was little. I hadn't shed a tear since the end of middle school, when my mother truly broke me.
"Yes ma'am, I'll be in my room." I quickly scurried up the stairs, only to catch the last shaky breath of my mother's trembling voice. "Why couldn't you have been a boy?"
I frowned, entering my room, Tossing my bag onto my bed and sliding down the wall. I took in my surroundings as I just sighed. 'If I were born a boy, father wouldn't have left to find a new heir for his company.'
I shook the thoughts out of my head, and glanced over to my phone that had slid out of my bag slightly when I tossed it. I stood, grabbed it, and quickly texted Kaoru. Luckily, mother is gone during weekends so I have the house to myself. I small smile appeared as I thought about the auburn haired twin, though it was quickly replaced with a frown, as a small memory zipped through my mind."Well, you put the note on my desk, not Kaoru's. I guess you got the wrong guy, besides, he has a crush on someone else anyways."
I furrowed my brows. I was CERTAIN that this was Kaoru. Why was he pretending to be Hikaru?
"Well, I do think you're kind of cute. Would you take me, instead?" The red head became eye leveled with me, as I sighed, feeling the single tear fall down my cheek.
"I appreciate it, Hikaru, but the one I like is Kaoru, so I have to decline."
He huffed, getting ready to shout towards a bush in victory, but his triumph was soon replaced with confusion. "W-what?" He stuttered, as I slowly turned around.
"You know, you'll never get a girlfriend if you keep pretending to be your brother, Kaoru." And with that, I left, the tears finally spilling over, though, I never caught glimpse of the boys, who now stood side by side, completely shocked.I snapped out of my trance when I hear my phone ding, indicated I had a text. I opened it to see Kaoru's name, and s reply with, 'sounds good, see you then.'
I smiled lightly, and put away my phone, and began on my homework before laying down for bed. I wonder, if Kaoru would ever come to realize what happened in middle school, and realize it was me who confessed that day.Oh well, let's see how the weekend goes.
