that following saturday night and i pulled my car into scott's driveway. no one else had arrived yet but i didn't want to be around my house any longer because my dad took a night shift at the hospital and my brother had a girl over. i parked my car and got out, walking up to the door. i rang the doorbell and waited a minute before it opened and i saw scott.

"nicolette," he smiled. "you're early."

"yeah," i let out a small laugh. "my house was getting weird and i figured you wouldn't mind."

"not at all," he said and allowed me inside. he pushed the door shut behind me as i turned to him.

"i can name about four things that might get broken." i told him.

"i'm actually happy you showed up early then, because i have never thrown a party a day in my life and you seem to go to a lot. would you maybe help me?"

"yeah, i'd love to." i nodded and pulled off my jacket.

he grabbed it from me, along with my purse.

"i'm going to put this upstairs in my room so no one takes them." he told me. "you can start saving my parent's belongings though."

"thanks," i said and he hurried upstairs.

i walked over and picked up two vases, i walked through the house and found the kitchen. i placed them below the sink along with a couple other things before scott came back down. i turned and looked at him, seeing my phone in his hand.

"it was ringing and i thought maybe it was important." he said and handed it to me. "monty called you."

i took it from him in confusion, forgetting totally that i had monty's number. we never talked and the other day it was over instagram dm. i unlocked my phone and called him back, placing the phone to my ear, holding it with my shoulder.

"finally!" monty laughed. "where the fuck are you?"

"why?" i asked, placing some more breakables below the sink.

"because i am sitting out front of your house, waiting for you."

"why?"

"i've been chosen to take you to scott's tonight." he said. "elliot's rules."

"i'm already at scott's and it doesn't start for another hour." i told him.

"well i figured you'd need time but you're already there?"

"yes monty, i have a car and know how to drive." i said. "goodbye now."

i hung up and slid my phone into my back pocket.

"what did he want?" scott asked.

"my brother put him on babysitting duty i guess." i rolled my eyes.

"what's with you brother? everyone was telling me he was this cool dude all summer but he just seems controlling."

i turned, placing my hands on the kitchen counter, leaning on to them.

"he's not usually this way, he is really cool but i don't know. he's been off since we got back." i explained. "it was probably just the fact that we were gone all summer, i think he just needs time to get back into the groove of crestmont."

"well what's he so worried about?"

"at first it was monty and the fact that i commented something under his post. then it was tyler and now it's just me i guess."

"wait he was worried about monty but is now putting him on babysitting duty?" he laughed.

"i don't know," i shrugged.
