i sat up, turning to look at monty.
"finally," he sat up. "i love you but my manhood was in pain."
i rolled my eyes playfully, "what manhood?"
"you want to be like that?" he laughed and pulled me on top of him.
i smiled, looking into his eyes. he leaned forward, licking my nose.
"monty!" i laughed, wiping my face. i pushed his shoulder.
"i love you." he said and pulled me into a kiss.
"i love you too." i said and placed my hand on his cheek. i felt my phone buzz on the bed. monty grabbed it before i could and looked.
"you have to get home." he said and showed me the phone. "your dad wants to talk."
i let out an exhale, "that's code for, my mom's parents have arrived and he does not want to be home alone with them."
"how long are they staying."
"two weeks, my cousins are coming in a couple days and we're all going to disney." i said and then paused. i looked at monty with a smile. "do you think you could get money to come with us?"
"i don't want to intrude on your families disney trip."
"please monty," i begged. "i do not want to be trapped with my grandparents and cousins."
"why don't you bring one of the girls, who your family actually likes."
"you've never met my cousins."
"your grandmother has made it very clear that she does not like me. and i met your cousins at the funeral, they stared at me the whole time."
"fuck them monty, i want you to come." i said. "please."
he looked between my eyes and sighed.
"i hate how easily you can convince me." he said. "i'll come."
"yay," i smiled and kissed him. "now will you drive me home?"
....
when i got home, i dragged monty into the house with me. i pushed the door shut behind us and slid my hand into his. i pulled him into the kitchen where my grandparents were drink coffee at the counter. my father looked tired, leaning on the opposite side of the counter.
"i'm home." i smiled as they all looked over.
i watched my dad smile once he saw monty.
"hey monty, i heard you got into pepperdine." my dad said. "that's a fantastic school. i'm proud of you."
"thank you so much mister james, it means a lot." monty smiled back as i squeezed his hand.
"i wasn't under the impression that your boyfriend would be here too." my grandmother said.
"well he is," i said with a straight face.
"we're planning to go out to dinner, a family dinner to congratulate you on stanford."
"and montgomery is invited." my dad said. "he's family too and it is nicolette's dinner."
"david," my grandmother said.
i watched my grandfather stood. he motioned for us to move into the living room. we followed behind him as i heard my grandma tear at my dad.
"i brought you two something." my grandpa said as he grabbed a bag that was sat on the couch.
"you did?" i asked.
"just because i'm married to her does not mean i have the same views. she's a mad woman."
he pulled out his checkbook and sat down.
"grandpa what are you doing?" i asked.
"writing the two of you checks."
"for what?"
"well you both got full rides at fantastic schools but that doesn't cover the cost of books."
"oh, i've already gotten all my books." monty said.
"me too grandpa," i said.
"then use he money to go on a trip or something, save it to visit each other, i don't care." he said and scribbled two checks.
"this is a wonderful gesture sir, but i can't accept you offer." monty told him.
"you're going to," my grandpa replied and handed us each a check. "hard work deserves some recognition."
i looked down and saw mine said five hundred bucks. i looked at monty's and saw the same thing.
"a thousand dollars grandpa?" i asked. "that's crazy."
"enough, take it." he said.
"thank you so much sir." monty said.
"don't thank me, keep up the hard work. and don't call me sir, it's hank or grandpa." he said and walked out.
i looked at monty and let out a small laugh.
"your family is so weird." he said. "it explains so much."
"don't even go there." i smiled at him. i grabbed his shirt and pulled him towards me. i connected my lips with his.
