the following day my brother begged me to bring him food before his baseball game. i gave in and decided to be nice. i pulling into a space in the parking lot and got out, grabbing his food. i walked over to the field, seeing them in the dugout, talking and laughing. my eyes met with monty's before anyone else realized i was even there. i walked through the gate, into the dugout and that's when people noticed me.
"hey little one," jeff smiled.
"hey," i smiled and handed elliot his food.
"thank you," he gave me a quick hug before sitting down.
"are you staying?" scott asked.
"no, i'm just not in the mood." i said. "my pills have kind of thrown me off today."
"alright," he nodded as he hugged me. "feel better."
"thanks," i said as i hugged jeff. "good luck guys."
i waved goodbye to everyone before walking away.
"nicolette," i heard monty's voice.
i turned, "it's really not the time monty."
"when is the time?"
"not before your game." i shook my head. "good luck."
i turned and hurried back to my car.
....
a little while after i got home, i was lying on my bed as i watched american horror story. my phone vibrated on my nightstand next to me. i reached over, grabbing it and seeing a text from the unknown number. i unlocked my phone and tapped on the message
unknown
can you please come back
nicolette
why?
unknown
i need you too
nicolette
aren't you supposed to be at the game?
unknown
i am but i need you to be here
nicolette
i don't even know who you are
unknown
yes you do
you just aren't looking at the
right person
i need my good luck charm....
i froze, remembering that i'd heard someone say that before. someone on that team that i was close to had called me their lucky charm before. it wasn't scott, not jeff or justin. then monty's face popped into my head. i sat forward in a fast motion. and as i thought about it, monty was the person.
he'd been the person the whole time. he was so interested in who i'd thought it was and he tried to help me find them. he'd gotten defensive the time that jeff tried to peak at the note. he saw me first hand in that dress when we were in spain, and told me i'd looked beautiful in it all night. then the person said they hadn't been able to message me the whole time i was in spain, because he was right next to me the entire time. monty was the only one who ever called me princess. he was the only one who knew that i hated roses because of how cliche they were. that night at jess's party, monty was the only one who'd known what bryce did. he was always just...there.
