I just made it home after work pulling into the driveway as I was about to get out of the car my phone buzzed I picked it was a text from Tristan
I see you 👀
Getting out of my car I looked across to the dark street at Tristan's house that was dim by the street lights.
Not seeing anyone I made way into the house even after the divorce Tristan still thinks he has tabs on me.
"Hey, mom Kiara said as I entered the house sitting on the couch watching tv.
"Hey baby," I looked around the house was quiet... Too...
"Get out of my room I heard Chanel shout as I seen Cody dash down the stairs with a grin on his face which dropped once he saw me.
"What you yall up there doing I asked looking at him.
"Nothing..." He told me.
"Mhmm. I looked at my apple watch it was half-past ten.
"It's late," I turned to Kiara" ya'll go upstairs and go bed your not missing school tomorrow,' I told them as they made their way up the stairs.
Once they were upstairs, I made my way over to the kitchen going to the cabinet grabbing a glass and a bottle of wine.
Pouring some into the glass I took a slow sip then sat down at the kitchen table and started going through the stack of mail I've gotten. Most of it was just sales papers or bills nothing new.
Until my eyes caught a glance at a letter that was from the hospital, it was addressed to Tristan I've gotten his mail a few times since the divorce which I usually give it to him. However, for some reason, I wanted to be nosey and see what the hospital sent him.
So without a second thought, I tore the letter open and started reading it.
My eyes grew wide as I dropped the glass onto the floor.
"That explains everything," I said quietly.
I was walking over to Candy's house since she called saying she wanted to talk to me about something. Hopefully, we can go back to normal, and I wouldn't have to live across the street anymore and be with my kids again.
At the door, I tried to unlock it, but my key wasn't working... When did she change the locks.
I sighed and knocked on the door soon Cany opened it.
"You changed the locks?' I asked
She looked at me
"Yea I did," she said dryly as she walked into the house I followed behind her.
I had a bad feeling deep down that it was something serious.
"What's going on, I asked as she walked into the kitchen saying nothing only to come out with some papers
"What the fuck is this... Is this some sick joke she yelled throwing the paper at me.
Confused I picked them up and looked at them.
They were my test results about the tumor.
I looked at Candy.
"Just let me explain."
"No.. you never tell me anything.. Then you wonder why our marriage didn't work she scoffed.
"I was going to tell you and the kids... it's just
"You were going to wait until you were on your death bed.' she said cutting me off.
"No, it's not that," I said
"Then what is it why didn't you say anything!"
"Because I didn't want to spend my last days with you or the kids being sad and feeling bad I want my last days to be happy, not dreadful... So I'm sorry I couldn't bring myself to tell you that!" I yelled.
Candy said nothing as she hugged me.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you," I told her as I stroked her hair.
