I instantly went into my cop mode and started paying close attention.

"Yes, mama told me she fired him I was doing good until he left."

I looked over at Candy who was avoiding my gaze.

"Actually I didn't fire him it's just Cody was improving very well, so I thought maybe he didn't need a tutor anymore."

She crinkled her nose something was definitely up.

"Ok, I can definitely look into it for you." Mrs. Grover stated.

Candy and Mrs. Grover went back to talking, and I tuned out.

I pulled out my phone and looked over at Cody.

"You ready to go?" I asked.

He took his earbud out of his ear and looked up at me.

"Yea he said grabbing his backpack.

Candy turned and looked at us.

"Where yall going she asked.

"I got to go to get ready for work. I'll drop Cody off at the house," I told her.

After the drive from the school, I pulled my truck into the driveway.

Cody was about to grab his backpack and get out, but I stopped him.

"Hey so tell me about this Mike guy," I asked the more I thought about the name sounded familiar.

Cody shrugged.

"He was just my tutor. Mom hired and sometimes my basketball coach."

I nodded.

"Ok did you like him?"

"I mean he was cool he let me drive his car down the block," Cody bragged.

"What does he look like I'm gonna see if I can get him back for you.

"He's tall brown hair and brown eyes," Cody explained

I was about to say something else when I saw headlights and heard a horn.

It was Candy.

Cody was about to get out the car once again.

"Hold on," I said pulling twenty dollars out of my wallet and handed it to him.

He took the money and looked at me.

"Don't tell your mother about this," I told him

"Ok, dad he said as he put his earbuds and got out of the Truck.

I pulled out as Candy pulled in and went to my house just sitting in the driveway as I watched Candy and Cody walk inside their house.
