41: More Questions than answers

I was was sitting on the couch holding Princess in my arms cradling her when Chanel and Cody came running down the stairs running past me.

"Would y'all shut up I'm trying to get the baby asleep!" I called out.

It's been a month since I seen or heard from Candy I have no idea where she went that night at the hospital and nobody at the hospital would give any information even Nikki tried to help me and she couldn't find anything.

Luckily Candy put my name on the Princess birth certificate instead of leaving it blank so I was able to take her home with me.  Regardless if she was mine or not she shouldn't be in Mike's care at all.

All I had to do now was wait for the DNA results and this nightmare can be over.

As I was holding Princess in my arms I looked at her she was finally asleep all I can say is her names matched her perfectly she was a little princess.

From the first time I held her I just got this feeling that she's mine I had the same feeling with all my other kids. I don't know what is but after being a father so many times it's like you just know when a child is yours or not.

There was a knock on the door.

"It's open." I said not wanting to get up off the couch.

"Hey." Nikki said as she walked inside I noticed a letter in her hand.

"Hey did you find out anything?" I asked.

Nikki shook her head.

"No sorry."

I sighed.

Where could she be?

"But I brought you this she said handing me the letter.

I handed her Princess who was still asleep as I looked at the letter.

It was the results.

"Well here it goes."I said holding my breath.

I slowly tore the letter open preparing myself for whatever happens even though I've been doing that for over nine months now.

"Tristan if the results aren't what..." Nikki started to say

But I placed my hand up stopping her.

"Let's just find out first." I said as I torn the letter open and pulled the paper out.

I looked at it and my face lit up.

The paper read that it was a 99% chance that Princess is mine.

Nikki looked at me.

"What it say?"

"That I am the daddy." I smiled.

I was happy that after all that waiting and hell I went through something good came out of it.

I looked at Nikki.

"You seen Mike lately?" I asked.

"Not lately but we not cool so..."

My phone started to ring.

I looked at it was a unknown number I ignored it since it was probably a scammer.

Seconds later the same number called again.

"Just answer it." Nikki told me.

I picked it up annoyed.

"I'm not interested."

"Tristan don't hang up it's me." I heard Candy's voice.

My face dropped.

"Oh my god where are you.." I said standing up.

"I gotta make this call quick but I'm in Dallas at the valley patient clinic I need you to come get me."

"Yea I'm on my way now." I said.

After that I heard the line hang up.

"I gotta go can you watch the kids I asked.

"Where you going?"

I grabbed my keys.

"That was Candy I gotta go to Dallas to pick her up tonight."

"That's a three hour drive and its after ten now."

"I don't care I'm going to go get her can you please watch the kids I'll pay you when I get back."

Nikki said.

"Sure I can and you don't gotta pay me it's good." She told me.

After that I made my way out the door got in my truck and sped down the road.

Three hours after speeding down the freeway I honestly didn't give a shit if I got stopped since I'm a cop and cool with a lot of other cops.

I made it to the place Candy told me she was it was a dark grey building and the street lights were off I kept my lights on as I sat in the parking lot.

I looked getting a eerie feeling until I seen Candy walk up to my truck. I unlocked the door and watched as she opened it and got inside.

She was in white hospital gown her hair was messy and her face was dull and kinda hollow.

"Let's go Candy said nervously looking around.

I started the truck back up and pulled off.

As I was driving off I looked at the time it was two in the morning.

Candy was lookin out the window.

"So was that place closed?" I asked.

"How are the kids.. how's the baby?" She asked.

"The kids are fine and Princess is fine they with Nikki now." I said as we kept driving.

I was getting hungry and not much was open except McDonald's and I didn't want that.

Then I seen a Whaterburger.

"You hungry?"

Candy nodded.

I pulled into the drive thru and ordered some food.

After I paid and got the food I watched as Candy started scarfing down her food like she haven't ate.

Something didn't feel right so I pulled into a hotel parking lot.

Candy turned to me

"What are we doing here?" She asked.

"Its late so figured we get a room and then head out in the morning." I lied.

I decided not to go back tonight but because I needed to figure out what was going on and I didn't think it was a good idea for the kids to see Candy like this..
