Chapter 1

"Ready?" I asked Danielle as I walked out of my bedroom and carried my skateboard down the marble staircase. Danielle was at the front door looking at herself in the mirror, attempting to place the SnapBack that I gave her last year, on her head in a way that wouldn't mess up her straight, brown hair. She was wearing a red, flowered skater dress with her new white Air Maxes that she brought at the mall yesterday. Her brown hair fell elegantly down to her breasts and her tanned, white skin showed not one piece of hair whatsoever. We both wore make-up; so I assumed that she was wearing the usual, with the bright red lipstick on her lips.

Danielle was beautiful, however everything she would wear would be the complete opposite to me. Her closets were filled with short dresses and long skirts, whereas mine were filled with baggy jeans and purposely oversized tops. We both had heels, but they were only worn on special occasions, and even though skateboarding was very important to both of us, it was obvious that heels were definitely out of the question when it came to picking out an outfit.

"More ready than your are bitch" she replied, not realising that I had completely changed since the last time she saw me. Playing with her hair, Danielle was still looking at herself in the mirror, so when I slowly stood behind her and popped into view, I managed to send her screaming. "What the fuck man!" I laughed. Her body shook a little and then she turned around to see what I was wearing. It was at that point that Danielle actually began to notice my presence.

"You like?" I said, motioning my hands down my body and putting a goofy smile on my face. Oh she liked!

"Hazel man, you look.........Shit well you look buffer than me that's for sure."

We both laughed in unison. I was wearing my black homie crop top with long sleeves, baggy denim pants, my black high top converses, a gold chain, black studs and my black SnapBack with the gold studs on it. My face wasn't completely covered in make-up, I just had on the usual with my dark brown lipstick on. My hair definitely wasn't straight like Danielle's, instead my brown hair fell down in curls and the end was nicely dip dyed in blonde. To be honest with you, I knew I didn't look that bad but I didn't know that I looked that good. Danielle is so gorgeous and then there's just me, so for Danielle to say that I looked better than her meant a lot.

"Thanks," I said twirling around in the mirror; "But you look ten times better than me."

I've always been insecure of myself. Even though I'm the leader of the skater gang, to me, I would never be the prettiest one because everyone in it is so beautiful. Everyone else thinks different though. They all think that I'm the prettiest one and that Danielle comes after me. I don't see why though, Danielle's so...

"Hazel?" I was snapped out of my thoughts when I heard clicking sounds in front of my face. I was so deep into my head, I had missed literally everything Danielle had said.

"Sorry what?" I asked, shaking my head in confusion. Danielle looked annoyed, but when she saw my face focus again she quickly smiled back at me.

"I said we'll see who looks the best when we get there shall we?" She didn't say it as if we were going into a competition to see who looked the best, she said it as if she already knew the answer...and by the looks of it she already thought that the answer was me.

I gave her a light smile and we both headed out the front door, skating down the street, on our way to the skatepark.
