Steve was getting worse; less and less sleep reached him every night and he found it increasingly difficult to keep up the happy charade he's been playing. Tonight it didn't look like he would get any sleep. No matter how comfortable he made himself (or how tried he felt), Steve doubted any peace would come to his mind.

Defeatedly, Steve slowly rose from his bed. Dusky - who was beside him - stirred in her sleep slightly but otherwise made no move to wake up. That was good.

The human silently made his way over to the glass doors which lead to the balcony. He needed fresh air, some kind of distraction from the thoughts restlessly buzzing about his head. Steve carefully opened one of the crystal-clear doors, stepped into the cold night air and shut the door behind him.

It was always so very beautiful at night. There weren't many clouds, so stars twinkled brightly without being obstructed, the sky a mixture of navy blue and black.

Humans used to have to worry about the monsters, and whether they were safe or not.. Now, however, there was no longer that threat. Steve didn't remember it happening, but Notch told him that there was a truce between the humans and monsters. New laws being carved into stone and a serge in crime amongst both parties.

Notch was under a lot of pressure.

Steve yet out a long sigh and gazed absentmindedly out to the trees of the forest, his brain going at a hundred miles per hour. Thoughts buzzing about his head, like wasps with stingers laced with a deadly venom. They were so loud.

As his eyes slid across the trees, Steve caught sight of a pair of white lights, glowing faintly from the dark - like two stars by the ground - The human snapped his gaze to these lights. Was that..?

"H-Herobrine?" Steve asked, a twinge of hope in his voice. It had to be him!

Looking around frantically for a quick way to get down, Steve spotted the vines which stretched about the castle. He wasn't sure they could hold his weight, but he had to get to Herobrine. Fast.

Only being half careful, Steve stepped up to the ledge of his balcony. He wobbled precariously before reaching out and tightly grasping the vines to steady himself. After tugging on them to ensure they wouldn't immediately break with his weight, Steve swiftly swung his body around and his feet left the solid safety of the balcony.

A quiet yelp escaped his throat, but he didn't have time to stall. The human began to scramble down, slightly swinging from side to side from how uneven all the vines were.

He had probably gotten about halfway down when a snap reached his ears and he barely had time to freeze up before his heart kept up into his throat and he began to drop.

In that one instant, the human impulsively scrambled for a more stable branch of vine, desperate for something to latch on to as he fell, fell, fell.

Until he finally managed to stop himself, heart in his throat and with laboured breathing. He could feel his body shaking violently from the shock; he could feel how tight his hands gripped the only thing keeping him alive, his knuckles a pale white.

A quiet crunching noise (not unlike someone stepping on a leaf) reached his ears from below and - in his panicked state - Steve immediately switched his eyes downwards, trying to see what made that sound. There was nothing there.

He was getting distracted. Steve hurried the rest of the way down (which, granted, was no longer that far), his shaking not seizing until his feet touched solid ground.

When Steve looked to the trees, he could just make out those lights and, now with a bright smile, he rushed as fast as he could to said lights, longing to just be with Herobrine again. He had no care for how he probably shouldn't feel this way.
