Since everything that had happened, Steve has had persistent trouble with falling sleep, or even staying in one position for too long. His body, however, still requires rest; it requires time to recharge and relax. So, Steve does manage to get to sleep sometimes. Unfortunately though, that's not always a good thing. On those rare occasions the stressed human finally managed to get to sleep, nightmares dance across his consciousness in a mocking manor, twisting and turning into extreme angles. On those rare occasions, Steve dreams of the Void.
Right now, everything was pressing down against him from every possible side. He heaved to gasp in air which wasn't there. Only the inky black abyss surrounded him. Too close. He couldn't breathe. Pain throbbed within his stomach. It hurt so much. Steve thrashed about, begging to be able to grasp onto something or just for the pain to stop. Too much. His body shook and quivered as silent tears poured down red cheeks. He was dead. Steve was dead.
The human tried in vain to call out for help. He had no voice, not a single sound escaped him. Steve clawed desperately at his throat. His throat was far too tight. Like at any moment it could collapse in on itself. He didn't want this. He needed out! He couldn't stay here, he can't breathe. He's dead.
Steve is dead.
Suddenly, the pain is gone. Steve gasped and panted with relief as he finally could breathe. Nothing is too much, or too tight, or too close. He feels safe.
The emptiness surrounding him fades into a beautiful meadow which stretched as far as Steve could see. Colourful flowers danced within the soft, calming breeze and the grass was a vibrant, rich green. Steve looked about in confusion. What happened?
Then his eyes met a pair of glowing, white ones. Steve felt his heartstrings tug. God, he had missed Herobrine so much. Said god stood nervously, quite a distance away from Steve. He seemed so out of place, which was strange to see; Herobrine was always portrayed as someone who had everything under their control.
It was unsettling to see Herobrine so ragged and messy. His hair was a chaotic mess and his clothes disheveled and dirty. Even his slightly tanned skin looked as if it spotted a greyish tint. And his posture was different. In all the time Steve had known Herobrine, he never held himself as if he shouldn't be wherever he was. Steve felt himself yearn to make Herobrine feel better.
"H-Herobrine!" Steve called out, wanting nothing more than to run to him, but knowing that Herobrine would just leave if he did so. Instead, he took more subtle steps towards the god. "Where have you been?"
Herobrine gazed at Steve, heartbreak and pain swimming within the soft glow of his eyes. It drove Steve mad at the fact that Herobrine just looked so...broken. Steve wanted to help.
"I-I...miss you, Herobrine..." Steve gave a slightly sad smile, hoping that if he talked then Herobrine would stay and they could be happy again.
"...Is it okay?" Herobrine finally asked as he gestured to the beautiful scene around them.
"It's perfect." Steve smiled, taking a couple more urgent steps towards his god. "You're here with me." At this, Herobrine froze where he stood, expression morphing into one of...fear..?
"Goodbye, Steve." He spoke quickly, before disappearing. The only trace of proof that Herobrine had actually been there was the hollow cave in Steve's heart growing in size.
"Herobrine!" Steve cried into the empty meadow.

Everything was stupid. Steve let out a sigh that was too heavy as he stood on the balcony again, though this time the sun shone brightly in the cerulean sky above, which spotted only a couple of clouds here and there. There was also a soft breeze which danced about the trees and bushes of the nearby forest. Everything was stupid.
