When Steve landed on the hard ground after jumping out the window, he twisted his ankle horribly, however the pain was not bad enough to stop him. He ran for the Nether portal, his cuts from the glass bled and his twisted ankle seemed to scream in protest at being moved so quickly. It was a good thing that the mortal's stab wounds were healed by now otherwise he wouldn't know if he could make it.
The air quality in the Nether was horrendous, smoke surrounding him as he coughed violently. How was there fresh oxygen in the castle but barely any out here? Still, Steve pressed on, having coughing fits with every other step he took. Steve was relieved once he reached the portal and jumped in, a tingling feeling spread throughout his body and he felt very dizzy, to the point that his vision swayed.
The scene around him changed from the fiery Nether to the night sky of the Overworld. Stars twinkled innocently and the crescent moon shone brightly, but that wasn't what the human focused on as he stepped out of the purple swirls of the portal. What Steve focused on was the massive battle which took place right before his eyes.
Blood stained the once green grass, not all of the blood was red, however. A sudden loud bang caught the attention of most of the warriors, including Steve.
All the humans looked in horror as the dirt that was stirred from something slamming into the ground settled and every human could see their king, wounded and lying in a crater where the ground had exploded away when the beloved god slammed into it. Notch struggled to get up but ultimately fell too the ground. He was weak and injured badly.
"Lord Notch!" Alex and a couple of other human warriors tried to run forward, however the others were stopped by monsters or other humans. Alex kept on going forward towards her leader and Steve found himself glued to the spot, going unnoticed and staring at the scene before him. Alex only stopped when Herobrine landed in front Notch, clearly enraged and scaring all the humans enough to stay away.
Steve saw Alex amongst the crowd, but he couldn't run to her. Not when Herobrine held a deadly, diamond blade and pointed it at Notch. Not when Herobrine was so clearly growling some sort of insult to Notch that Steve couldn't quite hear. Steve felt himself charge forward without really meaning to do so. He had to do something. He had to stop Herobrine before he killed Notch. Steve sprinted forward, ignoring the protests of his injured body and dodging anyone who was in the way. He wanted to cry out to Herobrine - to beg him to stop - but he couldn't find his voice. The desperate human panted as Herobrine raised his sword and Steve could see the dark grin and murderous intent in the god's eyes. The god he had been with for, what, a little over a week? And he had never seen him this angry. Not even when he was in that room where Herobrine had cut his body with a dagger.
"-and for trying to ruin everything with my Stevie again, you shall die!" Wait what? Did he hear him correctly? Herobrine wouldn't kill for him, right? Surely he wasn't worth another's life! Steve was snapped out of his thoughts when the sword began to lower, time seeming to slow down. He would have to think about that another time. He darted forward, the clock ticking.
Herobrine was about to finally get rid of his sad excuse for a brother when someone suddenly stood in the way, arms outstretched to the sides in an attempt to block the attack better. Herobrine didn't stop in time and the sword slid across the human's chest and slid into the centre of the their abdomen. The once infuriated god began to panic as their heart seemed to sink and shatter in their chest.
"Steve?!" Said mortal slowly looked down to see Herobrine's diamond sword resting within his body. Steve felt extremely woozy and his vision clouded.
"O-Oh..." He uttered weakly before falling to the hard ground.
"Steve! No!" Herobrine screamed, rushing to the side of his human, frantic and cursing himself for not being able to heal others. The god held Steve as close as he could while not risking hurting his mortal. "You're okay, you have to be okay, it's going to be fine...i-it's just a cut! You-"
"H-H...Hero...brine..." Steve strained, finding it harder to keep him eyes open every passing second. He was scared. He knew he was at death's door. That sword must have dug into his vital organs. Herobrine turned his full attention to Steve as soon as he spoke, feeling something unfamiliar and wet begin to fall from his white eyes.
"What is it?!" He intrigued, panicky. Notch slowly stood then stumbled backwards a bit before watching solemnly, tears pricking his eyes but he had lived though so many lives of his creations. He knew this feeling well. Too well.
"I...n-need to...t-tell you..." The fatally wounded human forced out, talking took up much more energy than before. "...I-Important..." Steve could absently feel little drops of liquid fall on his face, his blurry vision not helping him figure out the cause. Was...Herobrine crying? No. He couldn't be. it must have started to rain, however there were no clouds in the sky but Herobrine doesn't cry. Especially not over a human.
"What? What is it Steve? Tell me! Tell me, please!" Herobrine pulled Steve closer, aware of Notch being there and everyone else but not caring. "Don't leave me; I need you! I-I'm sorry!"
"H-Hero...b-brine...I-I...love...yo-you t-too..." Steve could feel himself slipping away. Herobrine choked out a strangled sob before pulling the dying Steve in for a kiss, their second but apparently final.
Steve kissed back as best he could. Fear held him. He was scared of death. He didn't know what it would be like. And what would happen when he died? Would Dusky be okay? Would Herobrine be okay? These thoughts began to get hazy in his mind as he slowly closed his eyes and everything went black. At least he found some comfort with Herobrine being here.
When Herobrine felt Steve go limp and his life force faded into nothing, he screamed out, tears pouring down his face. He had never recalled feeling this horrid pain in his chest before and he despised it. Steve loved him back but now Steve was gone and it was all his fault; he killed the only human he ever cared for. He was a monster. A foul monster who doesn't deserve love.
"Steve!" He heard someone cry out, a female voice. Rapid footsteps came for him but Herobrine didn't want to deal with them. He held Steve tighter.
"Stay back!" He yelled and created a force field around him and his dead lover, pushing everyone except Steve away. He heard angry banging on force field but he just did not care. He would never care for anyone like he cared for Steve again.
Someone stepped into the force field. There was only one other person who could do that.
"N-Notch..." Herobrine growled between sobs, trying his best to sound threatening.
"You care for the human, is that why?" Notch spoke with a mixture of wonder and understanding. Herobrine didn't reply. The pure god cautiously came closer. "I know it hurts, but you'll find a way to live with it and-"
"Bring him back." Herobrine didn't even bother wiping the tears from his eyes as he stood, holding Steve gently in his arms. He could feel this awful pain in his chest and he hated it with a passion. Notch gave his brother a sorrowful look. "I know you can so-"
"Humans die every day, Herobrine. I can't bring Steven back it'll-"
"It's my fault he's dead! It wasn't his time!" The pain in his chest grew.
"You have killed many before...if I bring one human back I'd have to-" Herobrine cut Notch off by yelling in rage. He took the force field down and telepathically pulled the nearest human towards him and down on their knees. The nearest human happened to be Alex.
"Let me go!" She tried to struggle out of the invisible grip but it was futile.
"I swear I'll kill every single one of your dammed creations if you don't bring him back! I'll kill them all!"
