"Welcome home, Love. I'm so happy to know you've made your choice," Pan pulled away from me and we were suddenly at the waterfall, "and you still wear the necklace," he smirked. I stayed silent, "what, Love? Aren't you happy to see me?"
"How long until you kill the only family who ever loved me?"
He dropped his smile, "Straight to the point, then? That's what I love about you. You're direct, you communicate--well when you're angry anyway."
"Answer the damn question," my eyes stayed trained on the dirt beneath our feet.
"That's for you to decide. It can be the end of today or tomorrow," Pan shrugged, "it depends."
"On what?" I asked.
"How lost you can make him feel," he stared me down, "I need him to feel like the boys and I are all he has left. Henry needs to believe that he's saving magic for the good of everyone," Pan's right hand cupped my cheek, "even if he never was wanted by anyone."
"And what if I refuse?"
The demon smirked, "I have very good reason to believe that you won't." He met my eyes and I took in exactly how little sleep he lost over this. He didn't even have dark circles, meanwhile, I'm sick over everything that's happening. "Right, then, Elyssa. Let's go home."
He took me back to the camp, and the first thing I looked around for was Henry. Nevermind the other boys--I had to see that Henry was safe. Maybe I'll finally wake up and do the right thing.
Pan turned to me, "I know you want to speak to Henry but you'll have to wait just a bit longer. I have something I need to discuss with him."
"I swear if you even think about hurting--"
"You'll what, Love? Paralyze me with Squid Ink? Rip out my cold, dead heart? Leave me again?" his hands went to either side of my face, "You can say anything and it won't make a difference. I will have Henry's heart, and you will be by my side when I do. Nothing you say can make me love you any less."
He kissed me. It wasn't anything extravagant, just a peck, but when he walked away I found myself so utterly confused. He can't just talk to me that way, can he? He can't. He shouldn't. I shouldn't let him.
Maybe it's not that bad, maybe it's not horrible. Maybe I'm over-exaggerating. He's stressed, that's all it is. He'll be fine later I just need to give him time.
Stupid!
Pan went over to talk to Henry. I stepped behind a tree and tried to stay out of sight at least for the time being. I know I can't hide forever, but I can damn sure try. The Lost boys were doing the usual party around the campfire. Shouting and cheering drowned out any train of thought I could have had. I don't know whether that's good or bad, but it's something. I tried to relax.
I should have thought about the consequences of taking off before I walked out of that cave. No one ever said I was smart. All I knew was how to survive. A group of people don't like you and you walk away, you don't light a torch and fight back. You feel the world caving in, you hock your furs and move on. I seem to be having trouble with the last one.
Pan blew a note on his flute and I felt sick to my stomach. I silently hoped Henry couldn't hear it--prayed Henry would just hear air blowing through a flute. The moment he's able to hear that flute is the moment it's too late. My hand went to my necklace. I started fidgeting with it hoping to calm myself down. It worked for a bit.
Felix returned from wherever he disappeared to. He stopped to greet me, "So the Lost Girl returns. And you were so convincing with a knife to my throat."
"I could say the same for you," I quipped. It only made him amused. Peter turned to Felix but his hand never left my side.
"What happened? I know that look," Pan asked.
His most loyal turned to him, "Baelfire I'm afraid he got away.." My entire stomach dropped and I was sure my heart skipped a beat. Neal is alive. I wished he wasn't. Now Pan has free reign over Emma's emotions. This was bad.
"Well, then why didn't you get him back?"
"I tried. I followed his trail and found two of our sentries knocked out," Felix paused and gave me a sideways glance, "by a sleeping spell."
"Rumple," I said, "Neal must've found him in the forest."
"The Dark One. So Father and Son have been reunited," Pan's hand slipped away from me and he folded his arms, amusement clear in his hazel eyes. They were particularly green at the moment.
Felix glanced in Henry's direction before turning to us, "they'll be coming for the boy. We should move him somewhere safe."
"Now, now, Felix," Pan placed a hand on his shoulder, "Where's your sense of adventure?" he gestured toward the campfire, "we can't end the party when the real fun is about to begin."
Felix gave me a weird look. I couldn't quite figure out what it was for or what it meant. All I knew was that it unsettled me. My throat felt tense. My eyes followed him as he walked away. Something was dramatically different about Felix and it terrified me. Last I saw him, Pan was close to clawing his throat out. I wonder if he did and then put it back. I wanted to puke.
"Love, you've gone pale," Peter said gently, caressing my face, "what's wrong?"
"Nothing," I moved his hand, "I'm fine."
"You are." the phrase felt off and out of place. I had a feeling he knew exactly what I was blanching at. He lifted my chin and gazed into my eyes and then just walked away. I could have sworn he hummed in thought as he scanned me. I hugged myself and backed a little way outside of camp, hoping to find some solace in the treeline.
I didn't notice until I'd reached up to run a hand through my hair but I was shaking--violently shaking. My back hit a tree and I let myself fall into it for support. The little bit of separation from the sounds of cheering Lost boys was enough to settle me down for now. As the sun hung high the sky, I finally let myself go; I released the tension. I cried.
