We started through the forest looking for a high vantage point. Hook suggested we scope out the terrain, see if we can find Pan's hideout from above. With our current resources it was a sensible plan. I followed at the tail end of the group, hoping that I was doing an at least okay job at hiding my undying anxiety.
The further in we got, the less and less I recognized the terrain. It perplexed me. Pan essentially helped me make a mental map of the place and yet this section was new and untouched by me. It's entirely possible he just didn't bother to bring me this way. He'd probably say it was "unworthy of my presence" or something.
"The ridge is just a few hundred paces ahead," Hook announced, brushing a leaf out of his way. I ducked under it.
"You really think we'll be able to see Pan's hideout from here?" Emma asked.
I scoffed, "unless his camp is on the other side of the island."
"She has a point," Regina said, "how do we even know he's in this direction, Pirate?" Hook looked from me to Regina, the same hard look in his eyes as the day he'd met me.
"Whether or not he's here, at least we can get our bearings," David's words effectively cleared the air, quelling the brewing storm.
I matched Killian's speed, "if he knows we're here, he knows where we are."
"Careful, there, love," he stopped, facing me, "You're just lucky he 'asn't showed up to grab you," after he finished snapping at me he kept on, catching up with Emma.
My eyes closed as I took a deep breath to steady my heart rate. Killian was right, however harsh he said it. Pan's probably toying around, biding his time. He loves games, especially if one presents a challenge. Once the shaking in my hands settled I turned to continue after them, but not before hearing the bush behind me rustle. My head snapped in that direction.
There's a certain, distinct feeling you get when someone's watching you--almost like a blanket was held a milimeter away from your skin. There's a nagging in the back of your brain telling you there's some sort of danger around. That is how I felt in that moment.
"Elyssa?" Mary Margaret called, "everything okay?"
"Y-yeah," I strained, "fine, I just."
"It's okay to be afraid, you know?" she walked over, gently placing a hand on my arm. My eyes never left the foliage, "did you see something?"
I slowly shook my head, "no, I just... thought I heard something. It was probably nothing."
Even as I said those words I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Something was definitely wrong.
We walked back to the rest of the group conversing if you can call it that. Hook was giving an exposition on the forest below us. It was apparently called the Dark Jungle--so original--and as I looked over it I realized it was an entire part of the island that I knew nothing about. I knew Pan was a man of his secrets... but I wonder what exactly that part of the island holds for him to have not even mentioned it. Unless I'm just that stupid, which is entirely possible.
"I suggest we make camp," Hook finished. I missed almost the entirety of what he said because of my daydreaming, but sleep sounds so nice it made me pay attention.
"You want to sleep while my son is still out there suffering?" Regina hissed.
The raven-headed male turned to face her, "if you want to live long enough to save him, then yes," I just sighed. Here we go again.
