Luke

Go to sleep
Go to sleep
Go to sleep

I moved around in the covers, back and forth. My eyes just wouldn't stay shut. I was craving something. I knew exactly what it was but I wouldn't say it.
I couldn't.

There was no reason for me to get up and get the thing calling my name, I felt shameful.

I couldn't do it in this home.

Why am I in this home?
Calum hates me, he finally actually hates me, and here I am, in a bed in his home.

I heard rustling downstairs and the door closing. Not too long after laughter and clanking drinks.
Two brawny voices mumbled and I felt myself freezing, almost in complete disbelief realizing who had come in.

I pulled my knees closer
Just stay in bed

But then the jingling of the drinks got louder, I could heard the bottle cap hitting the floor. My mouth watered.
one wouldn't hurt, right?

Maybe they'll go out for a smoke break.
I only need a second.

I waited. I stared into the darkness for what felt like centuries, waiting for whatever sounded like the coast being clear-
And finally, at 2:26 am, there was quiet.

Immediately I took off the covers and jumped out of bed, tiptoeing quickly down the stairs.
I scavenged the opened box for a couple beers but then caught my eye on the vodka on top of the fridge.

What would two beers do for you?
Nothing.
You need more

I followed my thoughts and put the cans down reaching up to the fridge.

"Hey Luke." I heard and jumped out of fright. I looked towards the door and Ashton was standing there leaning on the door frame. "Shouldn't you ask for that? I mean Calum bought it, and we all know Calum only buys the good shit for a good night" he pointed back in the living room and added a giggle.

I ignored his comment and continued to reach for the drink.

"You know you could just join us? No ones gonna beat you up" he crossed his arms.

"Yeah except Calum maybe" I mumbled, "just go back outside" My voice croaked. I hadn't realize how long it had been since I spoke.

"I don't like the smell of cigarettes." He studied me and I avoided his eyes. He always finds a way to make me very uncomfortable. "It's silly, I thought you were classier than this, really." he gestured to me holding the alcohol, "ya'know, raiding our booze, but I guess addiction really can consume anyone. I mean look at what happened to your step dad" I rolled my eyes, "what a douche," he looked up at me, "you're kinda beginning to look like him, isn't that funny? It'd also seem like you were related" he chuckled
"You know what they say, after all, 'like father, like son'"

I opened the bottle and gave it a wiff, humming, almost completely ignoring all the bullshit coming out of his mouth.

"I gotta say, I was really looking forward to drinking that." I rolled my eyes again but then I heard Calum and michael's laughter coming in. I began to feel a little panicked and grabbed the bottle, heading for the door. Ashton blocked it "okay okay, I was joking before but now, for real, I can't let you leave with that."

"Ashton just mind your own business" I insisted but he stood still and the laughter grew closer.

"When was the last time you ate?" he looked at me, scrunching his nose. I tried to get passed him but he just held the door tighter.

"Ash? Get your ass out of my pantry and come play" Calum yelled. Ashton shrugged.

"I can't let you go with that, but how about a beer?" I shook my head. "Luke is this really a time to be stubborn, how would Calum feel if you took his strong shit, I mean you put him through enough."

On that note I gave up, some strong alcohol was definitely not worth the brain cells lost from hearing Ashton speak one more time. I put it down on the counter and sat on the bench to cool off but it was too late.

"What's going on in here?" Calum suddenly spoke. I looked up bewildered and almost embarrassed.

Before I could speak, Ashton was already on it, "our dear friend Luke was trying to swipe our strong stuff, but knowing about his alcohol issue, I stopped him."

The blood in my cheeks boiled. Great. Calum simply looked at me with anger and disappointment. He grabbed the class bottle and shook his head. "Cmon." They both left the kitchen and went into the living room.

And there I went, sinking into my own embarrassment.
I really have to get out of this house.
