Alexis's pov
I was determined to keep my positive attitude through the rest of the day and the entire year. I'm adamant to never let anything stop me from smiling and living happily. I spent too much time drowning in my own tears and crying myself to sleep and depriving myself of enjoying my freedom.
I decided it was time I let myself relax and enjoy the life that I have now. It's over. No more misery and pain. It's all over, and it's never going to happen again because he's no longer apart of me. He doesn't have the hold he used to have on my actions and thoughts. He no longer keeps me chained with imaginary bonds. I'm free. I can do whatever the hell I want to with whoever the hell I please.
And even if he does return, there is no way on Earth he will get me back. Not over my dead body! I am never going back. I don't even know why I'm thinking about this right now, I must be stupid or something. It's probably because I'm all alone in the empty classroom that came to become all too familiar for me.
It's the place I run to whenever I needed to be alone. My hideaway that is not too secret because Destiny knows about it. At least if I am completely honest, only very few things about me are secret because DJ knows me. All of me. Wait, not really, he's only my best friend. We've been together ever since we were babies, fighting each other over toys and shit.
Anyway, I love it when I'm alone especially in this empty room. It allows me to listen to myself, my thoughts and clear my head. It aids me in decision making and homework completion and calming my nerves right before a big class presentation. Destiny calls it my therapy room, but I think it's a whole lot better than that.
So I sat there thinking all sorts of crazy shit, munching on my M&Ms when my phone started ringing. I swiped the screen and pressed it to my ears without bothering to look at the caller ID. I placed my feet on the teacher's table as I leaned back into the comfy chair and answered happily.
"Hello!" I smiled as I spoke.
"Hi," the caller replied and it took me an irritating second to remember where I heard the voice from. "It's me, Christina."
I sighed a bit relieved as I recognized her. "Oh, hi. Sup?"
"I'm good, how are you?"
"Better than how I will be for the rest of the semester," I replied.
"I think I'm done with my classes but now I'm starving, wanna go get some lunch?" Christina asked, "If you're not too busy, that is."
I studied my bag of sweets and shrugged my shoulders; they were almost done anyway. "Sure why not."
"That's great!" She let out a small squeal, "okay, tell me where to meet you, and lunch is on me since you've been such a darling to me this morning."
I couldn't hide my smile even if I wanted to. Hey, it's free food. "Just meet me the same place we met this morning," I said, saving her the trouble of trying to find somewhere else on campus. That would probably get her lost and I wouldn't want that, would I?
"Okay." She said before saying later and hung up the phone.
I looked up at the ceiling when I thought to myself, this means I'll have to get up from here. I grabbed my bag as I used my feet to push away from the table on the swivel chair. A text message came in from DJ as I left my empty safe haven, reminding me of our usual lunches. I'm so sorry dear, I have to cancel. I ended up sending him a quick reply that would probably have his bushy eyebrows quirked up in surprise.
I'm so sorry sweetie. I have plans for today, I'll see you later okay. Don't worry about dinner, I'll cook. Mommy loves you. Mwah!
~Lexi."I take it you know where the cafeteria is too, right?" Christina asked as she started following my lead for the second time that day.
I nodded. "Even though I don't go there umm.... ever, yeah."
She laughed as she walked beside me, swinging her backpack on one arm. She then suddenly stopped to take a quick selfie next to one of the many palm trees on campus. I swear this place is covered with this stuff. She giggled a bit as she tapped on her phone screen as she walked.
"Christina, I don't think it's safe to walk like that here, you might get run over by someone," I said, glancing at my companion.
She only smiled brightly at me and snapped another pic, of both of us this time. "I'm Chris by the way. That's what my friends call me."
"Okay Chris, but you have a boy's name," I replied without thinking. I seriously need to stop doing that.
She giggled again. "You look so familiar." She said, leaning her head to the side like she was trying to pull out something from the deepest corner of her memories.
"Me?" I asked a bit innocently. I was not surprised at all by her statement. I get that all the time.
"Yes, you..." She trailed off, a thoughtful expression on her face as she stopped walking to regard me with interest.
I suddenly felt nervous and was tempted to tell her so that I could get her to stop her uncomfortable scrutiny. Just as I was about to tell her she sucked in a very sharp deep breath. Her eyes widened in shock again, almost like it did this morning but with a little bit of disbelief.
"Omygosh!" She shrieked finally "holy shit! You're Lexi! The Leximael, on the top five Instagram couples of 2014!"
I didn't bother to say anything because I'd probably just end up looking like a lying fool trying to hide the truth.
"Dang girl, what happened?" She continued talking. "I mean, you guys completely disappeared from social media. I couldn't even find your individual profiles anymore."
I still kept quiet, wishing she would stop talking and I wondered if DJ would still have lunch with me if I find him now.
"You were with this really hot guy. I mean, he's so cute! Are you guys still together?"
I was quick to scream no this time and raise my hands in surrender. "Okay that's enough, stop." I almost yelled at her.
"Okay. But what happened? Where's... Uhh, what's his name...?" She went on as if I never said a word. "Oh yeah, I-"
"Shut up!" I screamed to cut her off. I don't want to hear this. I swear if I do will cut my ears off.
"Really Lexi, where's Is-"
"For f*ck's sake Chris! If you say that asshole's name I am going to carve your tongue out with a peer of blunt scissors." I pointed threateningly at her as I narrowed my eyes in anger.
She just stood there silently gaping at me for a long while and I tried to reign in my temper. "I'm so sorry." She whispered after a while.
"It's okay." I managed to say through my clenched teeth. I pushed the door to the school's cafeteria and held it open for Chris to enter.
"Wow," she said in a hushed voice and I had a feeling she wasn't at all awed by the lunchroom. "You are too forgiving and so sweet. Whatever happened to you guys I bet it's not your fault."
I just pretended that I didn't just hear that. Then Chris said the one thing that got me talking again and we were all good for the rest of the day. "What can I get you?"
"Some chocolate ice cream please." I smiled sweetly at her as we headed for the frozen section.
