Alexis's pov
My disappointment was evident in my sigh. I was about to protest with whatever silly excuse I made up in my head when the double doors to the classroom slammed open angrily.
We looked up in surprise to see my ex-boyfriend glaring at us in rage. Our initial shock turned to horror when Ismael pulled something from his pants waist and pointed it a Destiny's head.
"I'm going to f"cking kill you!" He screamed like a madman, a silver handgun shaking slightly in his hands.
I moved without thinking - I tend to be doing a lot of that lately- and stepped in front of Destiny. My heart was a crazed animal, beating at an inhuman pace. I wasn't sure if it actually knew what was going on. If it understood the difference between the excitement of kissing my best friend or the dangers of my current situation.
"No, you won't." I sounded breathless and scared half to death but I couldn't just sit there in my post make out state and not do anything.
Ismael laughed like the crazy psychopath he is and shifted the gun to my forehead. I couldn't tell what my heart was doing because my brain felt like it was self-destructing from everything that had gone on and the sudden change of events. I can't describe what it felt like being held at gunpoint by my completely out of his mind ex-boyfriend.
Ismael didn't stop his insane laughter and I was starting to worry because tears began to run like a stream down his face. "You'll never get her. If I can't have Alexis, no one can." His cold voice said.
I have never seen Ismael in this state before. I have seen him angry and lose his temper, but he would just break things and curse loudly and the roughly kiss me on the lips before storming off. He'd take a long walk with his camera and come back when he was calm. That was what happened then when I found out about he was scamming people of all their money. Another time, he landed DJ in the hospital with a broken rib because Destiny called the police on him.
But never this. I honestly have never seen Ismael with a gun before and it scared the shit out of me. I had no idea what to do, I just had the dreadful feeling that this would not end well. Destiny put his hands on my shoulders and whispered for me to stay calm. That was easier said than done.
"Get your f''cking hands off of her!!" Ismael screamed. He pointed the gun back at DJ, who raised his hands in the air slowly.
"Ismael. Listen to me," I tried begging, "this isn't going to help any of us. You'll only get yourself into more trouble."
"F*ck that, I don't care anymore." He replied, eyes focused on Destiny.
A small shadow approached the opened doors of the classroom and I recognized the figure as she made her way. Christina had just come to have our usual lunches with Destiny and I. This girl tends to unknowingly walk into bad situations every time. I felt horrible and I panicked, hoping against hope that Chris wasn't walking with her head in the phone like she usually does.
I decided to keep Ismael busy and buy some time, not sure of what exactly I was waiting on. "Ismael," I said softly, "look at me, please. I... Let's work this out rationally. Please."
He didn't say anything. He just kept glaring at Destiny. The gun made a click sound as I heard it's safety disable. I gulped down my fears as a silent cry escaped my lips. "Okay. I'll let you have me. Just spare him. I'm begging you."
His eyes found mine then and I had trouble trying to find the Ismael I once knew in them. He remained silent, gun still aiming at DJ. I took the opportunity to continue talking.
"If you spare my best friend, I swear I'll be all yours for the rest of your life." I spotted Christina's horror struck face as she realized what was taking place and the did the one thing I didn't expect her to do. She began to creep up behind Ismael, silently.
I forced myself to keep looking at my ex, even though I wanted to throw up. "We'll go back to where you've been living. And we won't ever come back here. I'll give up all this for you if you just leave Destiny alone. Please-"
"You don't mean that." He said through gritted teeth. His whole body was tense in rage but his hands kept shaking.
I nodded my head earnestly. "I do. I really do. You remember how we used to talk about what our children would be like? I still think about it." I was spitting out a bunch of abominations one after another.
"And I missed you too. I missed you so much! I was just still mad at you for leaving me behind." I swear my heart was about to jump out of my mouth at the rate it was going.
The good thing was that I had Ismael's undivided attention. He had lowered his weapon at some point in time and was listening to me while searching my face for any sign of deception. "Really Alexis?" He asked, probably to make sure I was being honest.
I nodded, looking straight into his terrifying eyes that I was sure would give me nightmares for some time. Christina was so close to him that I'm pretty sure he would notice if she took a few more steps. She slowly took her heavy backpack from her shoulders and held it in her hands. And that was when it hit me. She was going to try and knock out Ismael.
"Why didn't you just say that," Ismael said, taking a small step towards me. I involuntarily held my breath as Christina raised the bag of textbooks.
"I don't know," I said shaking my head. "It was the shock of seeing you again, I suppose."
I heard Christina's outraged scream as she brought the bag down on Ismael's head. A gunshot rang out as he fell to the floor unconscious. I'm pretty sure I screamed my head off because I had no idea what exactly happened. Campus security was present in a flash and the local police were alerted.
I became aware of Destiny's arms around me as I trembled like a leaf. Tears flowed freely down my cheeks, but I wasn't sure it was out of relief or the sudden feeling that this was just the beginning. I felt like it wasn't over and that I just saw a small percentage of the psychopath inside my ex. I had a bunch of thoughts going crazy in my head and the only one I could identify clearly was that I had no idea where my lollypop went.
