Destiny's pov

"I thought we were going to be roomies." I heard Chris say to Lexi. They were standing at the doorway of the study room checking out the new makeover that I gave it.

Alexis shrugged her shoulders, "I asked DJ if he'd rather you stay with me or in a separate room. I must say, it's the fastest I've ever seen him fix up this room."

It was a matter of life or death. Maybe I'm being a little extra. The thought of having little miss talkative right next door to me was enough to make me redecorate the study room for Lexi. I couldn't bare having to listen to Chris's childlike squeaky voice going on and on about everything and nothing at all. If I listened to just one word from her, I hear it in my sleep the following night. Imagine sleeping through that every night, for "a few days" according to my bestie.

I was staring warily at the millions of traveling bags lined out on the front steps belonging to my new temporary resident. Why on Earth did she carry all these things was beyond my comprehension. Something told me this would be one of the worst days of my life.

I finally got up to put Chris's stuff inside when she approached me with Lexi following her closely. "Omg Destiny, you're such a darling. The room is wonderful!"

"Don't mention it," I told her. I took up the bag closest to me which happened to be Chris's school bag and dropped it immediately, surprised by how heavy it was. I mean it was heavier than Lexi's, and Lexi's book bag could challenge me if we sat on opposite ends of a scale.

Chris giggled a bit before she offered her help. "Let me take that one. The others aren't heavy."

"I can manage," I replied quickly. It wasn't like I couldn't lift the thing.

She took it from me anyway and turned to walk inside. Like there were only feathers in there. I guess if you carry that amount of weight around with you every day, you eventually get used to it. But that can't be good for you.

"What's in there anyway?" I couldn't help asking. Surely it couldn't be just booked. "It feels like you packed enough concrete blocks to build a skyscraper."

Alexis and her companion laughed at my very serious question before my best friend replied, "her textbooks along with some make-up..."

She trailed off as Chris finished her sentence, "lipsticks, powder, mascara..."

Somewhere along that sentence I stopped listening. I used to be the one to complete Lexi's sentences. Don't think it bothered me that someone else was doing it. IT DOESN'T.

I probably had a pissed off look on my face as I grabbed two more bags because Lexi gave me a small kiss on the cheek before she whispered a thank you. I smiled genuinely without wanting to and couldn't help but follow her with my eyes as she went back inside the house, swaying her tiny hips and all. I savored her smell of flowers, chocolate and warm smiles - whatever that means. I noticed Chris's presence a little too late as I looked beside me to find her wearing an annoying smirk.

She laughed lightly as if I just told her a slightly funny joke and turned again to head inside. Without thinking, I grabbed her by the arm, causing the bags I held to fall on my feet. She feigned a surprised look as I glared at her.

"If you ever tell her anything, I swear I'll-"

"I won't! What kind of monster do you think I am." She said, returning my glare. "I know you're crazy about your best friend, but it's not in my place to tell her that. I know also that, for some unexplained reason, you don't like me, but that's okay. Because I don't feel the same about you. I don't think it's possible for someone to dislike you. Besides, Lexi will have a more positive reaction to it if you told her yourself."

I blinked, taken aback by her words. That was unexpected. I mean I didn't know exactly what to expect but, definitely not this. I let her go and looked down to avoid her eyes as she inspected her arm where I held a few seconds ago.

"Pretty firm grip you have there." She said.

I chuckled, "you do know how to make sentences without adding 'like' after every word."

"You're an asshole underneath all that cuteness."

"Eewwe, she called me cute!"

"Seriously," she answered, "that's the only thing you picked out from what I said."

"There are other words to describe me, y'know."

"Yeah, like a stupid jerk who gets all soft and mushy inside whenever his bestie hugs or kisses him."

"I am so done with this conversation," I said, not sure of what I was feeling at the moment, but annoyed was a part of it. Who is this girl anyway? Telling me how I feel like some kind of mind reader or something. But it was true what she said. I couldn't bring myself to deny it.

I grabbed the cursed luggage and left Chris outside with the smirk she had before on her face. I found Alexis in the kitchen with a bar of chocolate clutched tightly in her hands. She was smiling down at it victoriously as if she just stumbled upon it or she had been searching for it for centuries and finally found it. As if she stumbled upon a gold mine. She didn't notice me at first, but when she did, Lexi quickly unwrapped the sweet and stuffed it in her face. It was the fastest I have ever seen her devour something.

Impressed, I clapped my hands and laughed, shaking my head at her. "Congratulations, Alexis Scott has once again broken her record of fastest candy eater ever."

"Shut up." She grumbled with her mouth full, her cheeks turning red as she realized I caught her despite her effort.

"What would you like for dinner?" I asked.

"Options?"

"I can cook or we order pizza or something healthy from Sammy's," I said, making sure to emphasize healthily.

"Ugh... Sammy's," Lexi answered, "I'll make the call."

I was about to tell her no when I stopped myself. I did not want to argue with her anymore. I was enjoying the last days of argument free. It felt great. Stretching out on the couch, I switched on the TV and waited patiently as Lexi finished her order. As soon as she did so I called Sammy's to cancel a very specific part of it - the part about the M&Ms, gummy bears and other sweets.
