Alexis's POV

Sometimes it's great to have an overprotective best friend, but sometimes it's just annoying. I get that Destiny is trying to keep me safe. I get it. But it was starting to get on my nerves. He makes me feel like a little girl most of the times and like I can't take care of myself.

Mr. and Mrs. Johanson better hurry up and give him a baby sister so he can tell her what to do and where to go when! And to be honest, he's younger than I am. I was born three months before he was. It's just by months but, so what! I'm still older, so if anyone was supposed to be treated like a child, it should be him.

We were having so much fun pushing each other down at the skating rink when I told DJ about my run-in with Steve. Destiny reminded me of his name. I swear that was one of the biggest mistakes I have ever made and I promised to never do something like that ever again. He went complete asshole mode again, cursing under his breath and glaring at everything in sight. I just watched him until he decided to talk to me directly.

"That's it." He said angrily, pointing his index finger at my face like he was scolding a young child. "You are not going back to any more parties, not even if the birthday person is a five-year-old. As long as the event says party or dance in any language, once it passes ten pm and I'm not coming, you are staying home. Do we understand each other?"

"You can't tell me what to do!" I screamed in reply, feeling tears of frustration prickling my eyes.

"Well, I just did." He retorted, glaring down at me.

"Stop acting like my dad!" I shouted at him but it seems there was no use trying to stop him.

Destiny shrugged his shoulders like I just made his "job" a lot easier. "Okay, fine," he said, taking out his phone. "I'll just let him do it for himself."

I didn't think before I grabbed the phone and threw it blindly behind me. I also didn't have to look at the device to know that it was totaled. Way to go, Lexi, you screwed up again. It's not like I was scared of what my parents might do about it, I just don't want them to be criticizing everything that I do or not do.

"I'm sorry," I said, looking down at my shoes and trying to control my tears. I'm so stupid sometimes. "I'll buy it back."

"It's okay, the darn thing wasn't any good anyway," DJ spoke softly with his back turned to me. I didn't know what to say so I just stayed quiet.

"Come on," he said, turning to take my hands with a forced smile on his face, "let's go get some popcorn and watch a movie. You'll thank for this one day."

"But why?" I asked, feeling a mixture of confusion and curiosity. "We were never like this."

Destiny stared in my eyes for a long while and I grew even more puzzled by the emotions I was looking at. There were so many of them that I found it hard to identify just one.

"Because of I...." He trailed off and looked away from me. "I don't know."

He didn't say anything else after that, and I decided it would be better for both of us if I leave the topic alone for some time. That was why I tried to tip-toe pass him the Tuesday night on my way to the front door. I had my platforms in my hands, my purse tucked under an arm and my teeth biting down on my bottom lip as I concentrated on my break out.

I was halfway across the living room when he looked up from his laptop just to glare at me crossly. I felt my eyes widen a little in surprise as I paused with my right leg in mid-air. I waited for him to speak. I begged him with my eyes to just make one sound because even though it has been only three days since our argument, it felt like I haven't heard his voice in years and I really missed it. I was dying to hear one of his sarcastic comments. Just one was enough.

He just kept on glaring at me wordlessly. I raised an eyebrow at him, thinking it would work, but it failed.

"Oh come on DJ," I whined, fed up with the silent treatment. I swear it was killing me. "Its karaoke night at Sammy's, aren't you coming?"

He just pursed his lips and stared at me blankly.
"Okay, fine." I sighed in defeat, it would never work anyway my best friend is too stubborn for his own good.

"I'll be back soon anyway," I said, smiling down at him despite his not so pleasant expression. "Come get your goodbye hug and kiss." I put on my brightest smile and stretched my arms out, waiting for DJ.

It took him a while and I thought he would never get up but he finally did. I gave him his usual kiss on each cheek and hugged him, squeezing him a bit. I took a discreet deep breath of his comforting scent and reminded myself that everything was going to be just fine.

A few minutes later I dragged Chris out of her dorm room on campus and we made our way to Sammy's Ice Cream Delight & Deli. The place was packed with people, mostly kids and parents, then there were people like me. The college kids who go crazy for frozen treats and sweets.

It was kind of exciting because the place was not usually that crowded, especially on a school night. It was because, for the first time in forever, Sammy was putting on an event to actually advertise his products. But the best part of this whole thing was the surprise guest artist who volunteered to perform for the opening night.

I was busy stuffing my face with some coffee rum ice cream when the show began. They started off with the small kids singing some cute shit which was really sweet and heartwarming. Then the items moved up in age from the tiny tots to teens and adults. It was a little past ten and I was on my fourth or fifth round of ice cream and cookies when Sammy introduced the guest artist.

"Our guest for tonight flew all the way from Hawaii just help make this event one to remember. People make some noise for Star Boy!" The crowd went wild because they obviously knew the famous singer from somewhere, unlike me who had no interest in those kinds of entertainment.
