Dandelions

Every night
I see you
In my hallucinations behind my eyes
You're there as I sleep
Even though my mind knows you're miles away
My heart brings you here
For the night
But as the moon departs, so do you
And I'm left with fleeting whisps of the memories of how our souls danced as I slept
Of the adventures never started and risks never taken
My memories mixed with fantasies
I try to grasp at these dandelion seeds
Floating through the air on soft white wings
My waking causing them to float apart
Sprawling through the world
But never far enough to reach you
As I claw at the slivers of my subconscious
You drift farther and farther away
But in the quiet, in between moments
I see your face behind my eyelids once again
And I await the departure of the sun
