Poison

It's a subtle poison

Poison that they show on the television

Tempting the viewer "Drink me, you'll feel better"

But it's all a lie in the end

Dressed up in a pretty bottle

A wolf in sheep's clothing

It deceives you until you're trapped fully in its grasp

And then it strikes with full force

Hitting wherever it can and loving every second of it

Poison

Causing you to lose your head

To become something you're not

To take away your pain

But then its effects wear off hitting you full force

A warning

This is the warning label we've been looking for

The sign of death, but only revealed after you're powerless

Children

Teenagers

Adults

everyone is susceptible to this poison

There are no limits to its carnage

Yet the people we see on the screen look so happy

A goal we have set for ourselves

We think we've found the antidote

The thing that allows us to be happy without facing the problem

But this slippery sly poison only works to create more problems

And yet we sit here

Watching and waiting and deciding

And wondering

am I next?
