LOTR Prompt #7: The Blue Wizards

Much as been said of these mysterious, infamous wizards (known as Alatar and Pallando in Valinor, and in the Tales of Lore, yet little knowledge concerning them has long been lost. The only knowledge concerning them is what has been very briefly mentioned by the other Istari. And I DO mean "brief".

Much of the deeds and of the unknown fate of the Blue Wizards has been forever shrouded in mystery, hearsay, and conspiracy. There have been many theories as to what had happened to these infamous Istari, but none has yet been proved thus far.

Prompt 1:

In this prompt, it is up to you to discover what happened to these two Wizards, and what deeds they might have committed during their disappearance.

What happened to them? Did they succeed or fail in their quest to delay Sauron's forces in the East? Or did they, like Saruman, chose to set their own path? Are they still alive, or did their souls return to Valinor?

Prompt 2:

Many have speculated as to the fate of the Blue Wizards. Some have said that they had failed and perished in the East. Others say that the Dark Lord imprisoned them. Many say that the Blue Wizards, rather than help the East fight against the Dark Lord Sauron, created cults of their own and hastened the fall of the East to Sauron's dominion -- or other such ambitious, dark deeds. Still others accuse them of siding with Sauron and proposed that Saruman knew about their "turning to the Dark Side", and was the ultimate factor in influencing him to join Sauron in the War of the Ring.

And yet . . . there are those who persist . . . and insist . . . that the Blue Wizards' contribution in delaying the Dark Lord's expansion was vital to the survival of the Free Peoples. They maintain that the Blue Wizards led a resistance against Sauron and his allies, but eventually fell with the Eastern rebels in a battle against Sauron's forces. They argue that without the Blue Wizard's intervention, the East would've immediately been under the control of the Dark Lord and the North would've been invaded and conquered much earlier, which would've radically changed the outcome of the War of the Ring, and even the Battle of the Five Armies several decades prior.
