It is time for the Great Mourning where the victorious Dwarves of Erebor and the Iron Hills -- and the Men of Dale and even a couple of the Mirkwood Elves -- pay their respects to their fallen comrades -- King Thorin II Oakenshield and his heirs Fíli and Kíli especially.

Dís, sister of Thorin, and mother to Fíli and Kíli, is deeply grief-stricken by the triple loss of almost her entire kin.

To honor their memory, she sings a lament for her dead kin -- to her brother, Thorin, in particular. And the other Dwarves join in the humming the rhythm of the song (they don't sing the lament because that is reserved only for the kin of the deceased).

In short: Write this scene in Dís's POV as she sings her lament to her beloved brother, whom she had held in high honor, and was always there for her and took care of her when their father left, his mind burning with a malevolent madness from the shame of their exile. What are her thoughts and reaction when she hears of her brother and sons having been slain in battle? What are her thoughts during the funeral and as she sings this lament? What causes her to sing it?

Bonus: Have Tauriel join Dís in singing the lament of Thorin, much to everyone's surprise.

Double Bonus: Have Tauriel sing laments for Fíli and Kíli after Dís finishes the Lament for Thorin, being too grief-stricken to continue.

Alternative 1: Have Tauriel sing the Lament of Thorin instead due to Dís being too grief-stricken to say or do anything but staring at her kins' lifeless forms. What are Tauriel's thoughts, feelings, and reactions to this scene as she sings?

Bonus: Have Tauriel look at Kíli as she sings his lament, her eyes glistening with tears. What are her thoughts and emotions as she sees her lover dead on his stone tomb? (Or you can just forego the Kíli/Tauriel love interest thing like I had since it's not canon and makes no sense whatsoever.)

Double Bonus: Dís comes over to thank her.

Alternative 2: Write from another Dwarf's (like Balin's or Dain's), Man's, or Hobbit's POV. What are their thoughts and reactions as Dís sings Thorin's Lament?

Alternative 3: Write from Gandalf's POV. What are his thoughts and emotions as he hears Thorin's sister sing his lament? What does he feel as he stares at the lifeless corpses of Thorin,  Fíli and Kíli? Did he foresee this happening? Was he shocked? Does he feel like he had failed the Dwarves in some way?

Author's Note: Mae govannen, mellyn! Here's another TH prompt for you! This prompt was inspired by Eurielle's "Lament For Thorin", which is so beautiful! I then imagined Dís and/or Tauriel singing this and this prompt was formed! I HIGHLY recommend listening to her LOTR songs. They're AMAZING!!! XD

Anyway! I hope you have a productive and blessed week! I'll have the next Hobbit prompt to come soon after this one! Be on the lookout for it! ^_^

Also, I hope you have an amazing February! :-D
