Harry groaned in annoyance as he ran down the steps. He definately had to talk to Cadence about this. Maybe he should write to Newt as well. Harry couldn't shake the feeling that his classes were switched on purpose. Whether or not Dumbledore had done it himself, Harry couldn't tell but he was definately late to class. He glimpsed at his first class and ran through the winding corridors of the school. Some one really ought to put up signs that show where you are! Hmm... Not a bad idea, perhaps Harry would speak to his head of house about this idea later, but for now Harry tried to find his way to his class. Finally he found the classroom and ran through the doors, panting heavily. The teacher at the front of the class let out a small shreik of fear as the door slammed open and the other students who thankfully wore yellow began to giggle. This time however Harry knew it was because of the teacher rather than his own punctuality. He sheepishly closed the door and walked up to the teacher. The students in blue were rolling theur eyes at his Hufflepuffness.
"Sorry, I am late proffesor. I was in with Headmaster Dumbledore. There was a mix up with my schedule." Harry said blushing brightly.
"I-I-It i-is a-alright. A-a-accidents do o-occur. J-just go s-sit d-down and g-get your th-things out." The proffesor stuttered a lot which seemed to annoy the Ravenclaws probably because it took three times as long to get a simple sentance written down in their notes; whereas the Hufflepuffs seemed more sympathetic with the man. Harry sat in the only empty seat left next to a brown haired girl named Hannah. She smiled politely and moved her books over so he could set up his own. The teacher seemed nervous and kept clumsily dropping things.
"Hello, Harry." Hannah whispered softly.
"Hey." He quietly replied.
"He sure is nervous today isn't he?" She asked looking at the teacher who was struggling to open a jar.
Harry nodded and quickly pulled his books out of his bag, afraid to look at the girl next to him.
"You seem nervous too." She said softly "First day jitters? My mommy says it's okay to have first day jitters because if you weren't scared then it meant that you didn't care if anyone liked you or not. That's bad because you should always want someone to like you."
Harry tried to block out the sound of her voice as he flipped through the book to get which page she was on.
"Mommy says friends are the best thing to have and the reason we get scared is because we dont have friends yet. But you dont have to be scared Harry. I will be your friend if you want." Hannah said softly.
Harry swallowed hard and looked around to see if anyone was watching. What if this was a test? What if this was a prank? If he said yes who would be there to beat him up for it? Did Dudley set this up?
"Here," Hannah said pulling a mood ring off her finger and handing it to him, "now you give me something."
Harry swallowed hard and reached into his pocket. All he had was a rock but... Maybe he could transform the rock into something else?
Harry pulled out the diamond and put it on the table. Hannah gasped softly.
"Pretty!!!" She squealed excitedly.
Harry smiled and thought hard. He sighed and pulled out his english to Latin dictionary that Newt had given him as a going away present and looked through it. He found what he had been looking for and pointed his wand at the little rock.
"Vetra Tietium" Harry said tapping his wand on the diamond. Metal formed around the bottom of the diamond, melting into a silver ring with a diamond in the center. Harry shrugged and put his wand back in his pocket. That was good enough he supposed, and he gave the ring to the girl sitting at his side.
"There," she said sliding her ring on her finger, Harry sliding the mood ring on his ring finger next to his black ring as well, "it's official then. These are promises that we will always be friends Harry. Best friends."
She put her ring against Harry's and smiled at him. Harry's cheeks heated up and he smiled softly. Best friends. That sounded nice.
