REAL LIFE!

"So, who's this Bea character?" Khalil sat on his couch, his eyes focused on the put together blonde across from him on the loveseat. His hands were curled around a lukewarm cup of coffee, and he had to pretend he wasn't slightly aggravated at being woken up before ten in the morning. Eva's gaze drifted lazily from her mug of fresh coffee to match his, trying not to notice how tired he looked. He, in return, tried not to notice how dim her own eyes were.

"Bea is... a friend." Eva was as vague as possible, but Khalil met her with that knowing look of his that would make her crack under the weight of his drilling gaze.

"A friend? Can you be any more vague, E?" He raised an eyebrow, and Eva's gaze darted right to escape how piercing his was.

"We met at Hanna's premiere, I was bored, she was bored, we went out. We've only been out twice, so yeah, we're friends, Kuh."

"Okay, okay, no need to get defensive." Khalil put his hands up in surrender, glad he had thought to set down his cup beforehand. "So you're going to keep talking to her?"

His words made her eyebrows furrow, her eyes fly up to his, her posture straighten as she leaned towards him. "Why wouldn't I?"

"Because Hanna doesn't want you to. People are shipping you guys."

"People have shipped me with Hanna for ages!" She exclaimed, throwing her hands up and tossing her cup in the air in the process. She grimaced, watching coffee fly everywhere. A string of obscenities flew out of her mouth as she rushed to the kitchen, grabbing a paper towel roll before rushing back into the living room. Khalil watched her with amusement, moving to help her clean up the mess she had made on the floor.

"Yeah, well, Hanna has made it explicitly clear she's straighter than straight. She's the epitome of a rich white girl who is ridiculously uncomfortable with anyone being different than she is."

"You don't have to tell me that. What's your point, Khalil?" She raised her eyebrows, taking the soaked paper towels in his hand and tossing them in the trash. Once the mess was completely gone, she placed the paper towels back on the kitchen counter, ignoring how uncomfortably soaked her shirt was. She shrugged it back farther on her shoulders, trying to ignore the feeling of it sticking to her body.

"You aren't. You're humble, accepting, and," he paused, hesitating on his next words, "you've made no attempt to deny gay rumours."

"Why do I have to?"

"You don't. I never have, even when people got out of hand shipping me with Corey. Hanna's just..." his eyes darted away from hers before meeting them again slowly. He sighed, softly saying, "insecure."

Eva remained quiet, chewing on her lip. Could she have been reading Hanna, her best friend, all wrong? Was Hanna someone who would despise her if she came out? She didn't want to be friends with someone like that. So what did she do?
