REAL LIFE!
It was a Saturday night, which was to say that it was normal for Bea to be at Eva's house or vice versa. This time felt different, though, and Bea couldn't put her finger on why.
"Bea?" Eva waved a hand in front of her face, shaking Bea out of her daze. She realized she was still standing in the doorway, and even though the door was closed, she seemed to be stuck in the idea that if she moved, the end of something would come. Bea smiled, hesitantly stepping towards Eva. There was little distance between them, and that distance would answer Bea's silent question. Her hand raised hesitantly, her fingers dancing across the sliver of bare skin that showed where Eva's shirt rode up. Eva gave her a questionable look, her own hand going to Bea's and lacing their fingers together. This action didn't help Bea, not one bit. Was Eva into her or not? When she went in for a kiss, Bea pulled back, her hand pulling out of the other girl's.
"What are we?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. Eva stared at her, a mix of confusion and bewilderment clear in her eyes. Her now empty hand faltered, and she pulled it close to her chest, curling in her fingers.
"What?" Her voice tremored, the crease between her eyebrows mirroring her uncertainty. Bea repeated her question, and she felt an odd flash of deja vu.
"What do you want us to be?" Eva asked, regaining her wits just slightly. She was in control of the situation, and that was important to her. It wasn't that she wanted control over Bea, not at all, but her parents had spent a lot of time controlling her, and she needed the choice. She needed to have a say in who she was. In who she was with.
"I want to be with you, Eva. I want to hold your hand and take you on dates and forget the whole damn world because I'm looking at you. I'd like to be your girlfriend, if you'll let me."
Eva paused, watching Bea, whose eyes were wide, insistent. They sparkled with the setting sun, and Eva mentally cursed herself for noticing. When had it happened? When had she found herself in like with Bea, if not love? How had she not seen this coming?
Bea started to retract her words, not being able to decipher the look on Eva's face, whose lips were parted as if she would speak any moment, but no sound came out. And what Bea read in her eyes was fear, which didn't help her any.
"Bea? Bea. Bea." Eva sighed, slipping her arm around the other girl's waist and using her free hand to tug her into a kiss. It was Bea's turn to pause, the action throwing her off guard. Before she could properly react, Eva pulled away. "I'd like that a lot."
"You would?" The smile in her voice couldn't even match the smile on her lips- Bea was radiant. She picked Eva up, spinning the girl around. Eva laughed, holding tight to the taller girl.
They were together. They were actually together. They were going to be happy, Bea was sure of it.
