If you don't drink enough fluids when it is devastatingly hot or during intense workouts, it may lead to dehydration which is accompanied by thirst.
Having a glass of cold water (preferably carbonated, since carbon dioxide is better at carrying fluid to the tissues) will help relieve the condition.
Dehydration partially suppresses sweating, which disrupts thermoregulation, and the body's temperature begins to rise.
Having a cold drink brings it down, while keeping the sweating at a low level.
However, the colder the beverage, the worse it is absorbed. Water maintained at a temperature of about 61 degrees Fahrenheit (16 degrees Celsius) can hydrate the body to the maximum.
Important: if you suffer from gastrointestinal diseases, it is recommended that the water you drink be at room temperature.
