Is it impossible to determine with absolute certainty if someone is a carrier of a sexually transmitted disease (STD) just by their appearance.
Sometimes, STDs have symptoms such as ulcers, blisters, or pimples in the genital area. If you notice something like that in your potential partner, then it is better to refrain from sex or use a barrier method of contraception (condoms).
However, oftentimes, STDs do not manifest themselves in any way, so one may be unaware that they are infected.
If there are no symptoms, this does not mean that there is no chance of being infected or infecting a partner.
In most cases, STDs can be detected only by laboratory tests.
