Although unpleasant, it is completely normal to experience lower back pain while you have your periods. It is caused by contractions in the uterus as it sheds the lining that had accumulated since the previous cycle.
Sometimes, your body puts pressure on blood vessels in and around the pelvis, decreasing or hindering the amount of oxygen that can travel to nearby muscles.
You don't have to suffer from pain. Here are some tips for relief: try an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication, take a warm (not hot) bath or shower, and try to find time to relax and rest.
My personal favourite thing to do to relax when my periods are ruining my week is drink warm tea, eat soup, of course dark chocolate!!, and curl up in bed to a good book. Usually, I'm the one writing the book rather than reading it but I highly suggest either:)
