"And so then, I said to Caspian, 'I should sue you for marital abuse!', and you know what he said?"
"What did he say?"
"He said, 'what the heck are you talking about?! Marital abuse?! Since when have we been married?!'"
Christo and Cassidy were sitting in a courtyard as they spoke. Their table was surrounded by a myriad of flowers, but neither of them were paying attention to the surroundings. Cassidy sat with her elbows propped on the table and her face leaning on her hands. Her eyes were sparkling as she looked at Christo.
If Lacy had seen them, she would have definitely punished Cassidy.
Christo had been coming to Sylvia's mansion everyday he didn't work since Caspian and Elincia disappeared. His idea was that if he was around often, then he'd be there to greet the two when they arrived home. He figured they'd appreciate it if someone who didn't hate them was around to say, "welcome home." However, Caspian and Elincia had been gone for over two months now and showed no signs of returning.
While this depressed Christo, he'd soon found another reason to keep visiting Sylvia's mansion.
"You really enjoy teasing Master Caspian, don't you?" asked Cassidy with a smile.
"I do indeed." Christo puffed out his chest. He always prided himself on his ability to irritate his friend.
As the two of them were talking, several explosions rocked the mansion. Cassidy screamed as she fell off her chair and onto the ground. Christo had it better. He stood up and bent his knees to maintain his balance, and then he helped Cassidy back to her feet.
"W-what was that?" she asked.
"I don't know, but I think we should find out," Christo said.
He and Cassidy quickly left the courtyard and went to search for someone who might know what was happening. More explosions struck the mansion. Cassidy screamed some more as she stumbled into Christo, but he just held her up and continued moving. As they rounded a corner, he caught sight of several maids and butlers battling against a very familiar machine.
"That's a murakumo!" he exclaimed. "Wait! Nevermind that! What the hell is up with those butlers and maids?!"
The butlers and maids were all wielding weapons that appeared to be made from magical technology, and what was more shocking, they were wielding the magitech as though they were extensions of their body.
A young man dual-wielded a pair of pistols that fired conical beams of incandescent flames. The flames struck the murakumos hull, causing it to glow bright red. When the attack ceased, a maid holding a pair of chakrams threw her weapons forward. The chakrams were glowing with a soft blue light. Christo soon realized they were chakrams with ice spirit crystals inside when they struck the murakumo. The superheated chestplate froze over, and then shattered from the stress of being subject to extreme hot and then extreme cold.
"Holy shit! These guys might be even more impressive than the Peacekeepers!" Christo exclaimed.
His words caught the attention of the maids and butlers, all of whom turned toward him and Cassidy, causing them both to freeze. As they stood there, an older gentleman with a handlebar mustache stepped out. Christo didn't recognize him. However, Cassidy did.
"Sebastian! What's going on?!"
"I don't know exactly what is going on, but we are obviously under attack," Sebastian said with a head shake. "In either event, it is good that you two have come. Lacy came by just a few minutes ago and ordered us to retreat using the secret passage in the east wing."
