Because Cassadinia was so large, it took a long time to reach the other side of the city even when riding on a MAFT. The one that Caspian and Elincia were on was one of the military vehicles used by the Peacekeepers. Large and imposing, it looked very much like a war machine as it drove through the streets.
Caspian and Elincia were sitting in the back with Christo and Cassidy. The space was so large it seemed somewhat empty with just the four of them, but this MAFT was designed to fit at least six to eight people inside. While they sat in silence, Commander Klein sat up front, driving the massive vehicle.
"We'll be arriving in just a second," Commander Klein said. "There's a crowd up ahead. I'm going to stop the vehicle before we reach the crowd."
Everyone nodded but didn't say anything. Even Christo was quiet. Perhaps he sensed the turbulent emotions coming from Caspian and Elincia.
The MAFT soon stopped, and Christo went to the exit hatch and opened the door, allowing all of them to exit. Cassidy almost tripped when she exited. Her foot slipped on the small ladder, causing her to pitch forward with a squawk.
"Whoa! I gotcha!" Christo caught Cassidy before she could take a nasty fall on the cobblestone street. "Are you okay?'
"Y-yes!" Cassidy blushed as Christo helped steady her. "T-thank you very much!"
"It's not a problem. I'm glad you're not hurt."
While Christo was playing the polite and chivalrous young knight, Caspian climbed down the small ladder, then turned and held out his hand for Elincia. She smiled and placed her hand in his, allowing him to help her down. At that moment, Commander Klein came around to the back and looked at all of them.
"Let's hurry, everyone! I have no idea what's going on, but I can't imagine it's good."
No one said anything in response to his words as they raced out from behind the MAFT and toward the massive crowd of people. There were so many. Too many. Caspian frowned as they were forced to stop at the very back, unable to proceed any further because the place was jam packed with so many people standing shoulder to shoulder. Maybe they could force their way through, but that would just cause problems.
"Elincia and I are going to take to the roofs," Caspian said. "You three wait here."
"Be careful," Christo told him.
"Yeah. I will." He glanced at his sorceress. "Ele?"
"Let's go," Elincia said.
Caspian and Elincia quickly darted into an alley, and then Caspian lifted Elincia into his arms and bent his knees.
"Springen."
The world around him blurred as he was launched high into the air. The wind whistled past his head, buffeting his and Elincia's hair as he ascended to the tops of the buildings and landed on a roof. He kept Elincia in his arms as he rushed over to the next ledge, cast Springen again, and leapt across the roof. He did this until reaching the very last building in this area.
A plaza lay spread out before them. This space, shaped like a circle, was normally wide and open. During most occasions, there would be dozens of people walking through this place at any given time. Some people would stop and sit at the benches that littered the area, while others would admire the statue that used to stand in the center--used to being the keyword.
The statue was now gone, replaced with a large stage, and on that stage were three people. Caspian didn't recognize the handsome blond man, but he knew the little girl with blonde twintails standing beside him. Cleopatra had been present during the Sorceress' Knight's Tournament. He wondered where her knight was, but that question was of secondary importance.
