"Thor!!"
Elincia's scream was lost to the frightening thunderclap as the bolt of lightning descended upon their group, but just before it hit their army, the bolt curved around and slammed into the shield that one of the enemy sorceresses had erected around their army. Lightning skittered across the energy barrier. Then it dissipated harmlessly.
Erica and the others were slow to respond. None of them seemed capable of comprehending what just happened. The bolt of lightning had descended so far, and Elincia's impossibly quick thinking was the only thing that had saved them.
"That was some good thinking," Erica complimented Elincia.
"Thank you, but we're not out of the woods yet," Elincia said, still staring at the incoming army as they marched forward. "Whoever just sent that bolt of lightning toward us is contracted to the Shinto Clan. That bolt of lightning came from Susanoo-no-Mikoto. And that barrier, it's made by Isis. She's a powerful spirit linked with funerary rites, motherhood, protection, and magic. With that barrier up, the sorceresses can attack us all they want, but we won't be able to do a thing unless we bring it down."
"How do you know all this?" asked Derek.
"Snotra told me," Elincia said.
"Erica," Caspian began, "Think you can break that barrier?"
"Hmph! Who do you think you're talking to, Caspie?" Erica smiled as she flipped her hair and stepped forward. "I'll show you just how powerful I truly am."
"Oh, ethereal spirit who resides within the underworld, she who rules over death," Erica began chanting. "Izanami, wife and sister, the first among those to bear these titles. I require your aid. You who controls both life and death, spirit of creation. Break the barrier that keeps them locked away, as you were once locked away by your husband. They are attempting to escape the fate you conceived for them years ago. This barrier is but a simple of their incurable greed, and it needs to be destroyed. Heavenly spear!"
A powerful mana surged through the area. The air became stifled and thick. Even people who were not sensitive to mana could feel the immense power swirling around Erica, whose body had begun glowing as Izanami entered her.
Holding out her hand, all of the energy inside of Erica shifted there, where it transformed into a heavenly jeweled spear. The spear itself was completely ethereal. Composed of golden energy, it did not appear anymore powerful than a normal spear, but there was a majestic presence about this weapon that caused those looking at it to suck in their breath. Even Caspian and Elincia were not immune to this.
"Hup!"
With naught but a simple thought, Erica tossed the spear forward. Despite how she didn't use much strength, the spear shot across the space between them and the enemy army within a split second, penetrated the barrier, and exploded.
Light and power detonated in a brilliant spark that made it seem as if all creation was perishing. Caspian closed his eyes to avoid being blinded. Even with his eyes closed, he could still see the brilliant light flaring behind his eyelids. He waited until that light died down before opening his eyes.
Caspian did not quite gawk at the sight before him, but he did feel a shock course through him when he laid eyes on the crater in the center of the enemy army. It looked like Erica had wiped out half of the Knights present. The remaining Knights streamed around the crater as they continued marching. Sadly, it did not look like the dark elves had received any casualties. They continued marching with the sorceress now in the center of their formation. It was clear they were using those two to protect them.
"There." Erica clapped her hands. "Did you see that, Caspie? How was it? Powerful enough for you."
Caspian rolled his eyes. "Yes, yes. You were very powerful. Good job."
