The forest that Commander Feral spoke of a little more than a day to reach by foot. Fortunately, the army marching their way was traveling from Axium on foot, which meant they had plenty of time to reach the forest.
Caspian was standing beside a tree that was large, but nowhere near the size of the ones in the Sacred Forest. Elincia was standing on a thick branch several meters above him. Since their tree was located on the border of the forest, it gave them a perfect view of the plains that the dark elf army was marching through.
"Ele, are you sure offering to help Valen was the best idea?"
"Of course I'm sure. Commander Feral said he needed archers to help defeat as many of their Knights and the dark elves as possible. I don't want to sound arrogant, but I'm really good at archery. Plus I can have the Nordic Clan bless my arrows. If I have my arrows blessed by Thor, I can easily take out entire swarms of Knights."
"That is true... but you'll also be shooting against living creatures. Not just Knights. Are you really okay with that?"
Elincia was silent for a moment. Caspian could feel the thoughts roiling through her head. He didn't interrupt her as she thought her answers through. Truth be told, he already knew what her answer would be, but he wanted to hear her say it.
"I am not really okay with it, but I... I know there isn't much of a choice. I have a unique power that no one else does, and that power is incredibly strong. I can help these people. If I don't help them, then even more people will suffer. I might hate the idea of killing, but I hate the idea of standing by and letting others be killed even more."
Caspian nodded even though he knew Elincia couldn't see it. When he looked up, she was still staring into the distance, watching for any sign that the army they were told about was coming.
"I understand. I'll do everything I can to help you."
"Thank you, Caspian."
Caspian didn't say anything since there was no need, and instead he looked at the people with them. Aside from Valen, who stood on a tree several meters away, there were around 1,000 elves dressed in dark clothes that helped them blend in with the forest. Most of them were standing on the branches of trees, but there were a few who were also hiding within the bushes.
Another hour passed by slowly. No one spoke.
As Caspian and Elincia looked into the plains beyond the forest, they finally saw the army marching toward them in the distance. Caspian squinted his eyes as the black dots in the distance became more distinct. Just as the reports claimed, the ones in front were dark elves, while the figures in back were the Knights. At the head of this procession were the two cloaked individuals. They were surrounded by a group of dark elves.
"It looks like the dark elves are protecting those two," Caspian said through his bond. "That must mean they are important."
"I wonder who they are? High-ranking dark elf commanders maybe?"
"Who knows..."
When the army appeared, Valen raised his hand, signaling to the elves present that they should take aim. The sound of several bowstrings being drawn filled the quiet forest. Elincia's new elven bow, which had been a gift from Valen, made very little noise compared to the recurve bow she used to use.
"Thor... please bless this arrow with lightning," Elincia said. A small spark of mana filled the forest. Of course, small was a relative term. It was still more mana than most elves had. Lightning soon coated the arrow, and while it looked contained, Caspian knew what kind of destructive force it possessed.
