Caspian whipped on the reigns of his horse, pushing it harder. The sound of several hundred galloping hooves echoed behind him. He did not pay attention to those traveling with him as he continued racing across the chilly plain. Up ahead in the distance, the city of Silvaguarde was slowly becoming more and more visible as the first rays of dawn lit up the ground.
"The city is just up ahead!" Caspian shouted to everyone. "Keep charging forward and help free the city!"
He had no idea if the elves heard him or not. None of them said anything, and so the ride was made in grim silence.
It was not more than maybe fifteen minutes before the city became their focal point and the city gate became visible. Just like he remembered, there were four people guarding the gate: two Peacekeepers and two Knights. The moment their large group was spotted, the Knights quickly attempted to get into a position where they could fire their muskets, but then the Peacekeepers struck. Their blades penetrated the joints in their armor. Sparks flew as the Knights' glowing eyes died and their bodies went still.
Caspian raised his hand and had all the horses slow to a stop in front of the gate. While the Peacekeepers looked wary of the elves behind Caspian, they bowed to him and Elincia.
"Lady Elincia, thank you for offering to help us free the city," one of them said.
"You're welcome," Elincia responded with a gentle smile.
"I'm assuming your forces haven't started their attack yet?" asked Caspian.
"That is correct." The Peacekeeper, a man with brown hair and eyes, nodded. "Because we also have many families living here, we didn't want to start the attack until we had enough forces to protect them." He glanced at the elves again, uncertainty once more flickering within them.
"Everyone here has offered to help free you from the oppression of the dark elves," Elincia said. "Please be at ease."
The Peacekeeper nodded as he brought out a small gun. He raised it into the air and pulled the trigger, releasing not a bullet, but a bright red flame that flew into the air and exploded with a brilliant luster.
"That was the signal to our men," the Peacekeeper said. "They will now commence with the attack."
Caspian nodded. "In that case, we should help them."
Getting off the horse first, Caspian held his hands out to Elincia and helped her down next. Behind him, the 5,000 elves climbed off their horses. All of them were so silent it was eery.
They moved swiftly into the city, flowing through the gates. As they passed by buildings made of stone and wood, the elves turned their heads and eyed the structures, which probably seemed weird to them since their houses were built from the trees of their forest.
It wasn't long before Caspian heard the sound of fighting echoing through the city. Turning a corner, the large group of elves found themselves in a town square where several Peacekeepers had engaged in combat with the Knights who acted both as guards and watchers.
One of the closest fights was between a dark-haired young man and a Knight wielding two short swords. The young man was doing his best against the Knight, swinging his blade and using his shield to protect himself, but the automaton was simply too strong. Each swing of its blades knocked the young man back. As the young Peacekeeper, who couldn't be older than 18 or 19, was pushed back, the Knight would move forward and swing again.
"Ele, I'll be relying on you for long range support!"
"Don't worry, Caspian. I'll watch your back!"
