The corridors of Hogwarts were very near empty, just as you had expected them to be. Most of the other students had left the castle earlier that day to return home to their families for Christmas break, the same as every other year since starting school, you had chosen to stay. You hadn’t really been getting on with them very well and preferred not to let them ruin a perfectly good Christmas that you could spend enjoying at school.

Normally you found the common room empty, but as you stepped in through the portrait hole, you saw a head of sandy hair sticking up from one of the couches. Making your way to said couch, you ruffled Remus’ hair, and leaned over the back of the couch. “What are you doing here?” You asked innocently, smiling from ear to ear.

“Sitting and reading.” He returned your smile, closing the book in his lap.

“Mhmm,” You took the book from his hands, inspecting it in your own. “What are you still doing here, Remus? You were supposed to visit your family for Christmas.”

Without any warning, he wrapped his arms around you, pulling you the rest of the way over the couch, and right into his lap, putting you into a fit of giggles. “Well I couldn’t very well leave you alone for Christmas, could I?”

“Remus darling, I’ve spent every year alone for Christmas. I honestly don’t mind it.” You leaned over to rest your head on his, arms wrapped around his shoulders.

He cuddled into your chest, pulling you as tightly into him as he could. “Well every other year you weren’t dating me. Since you refused to spend holiday with Lily’s family or with mine, I thought I might as well spend it here with you.” His words set your heart a flutter inside your ribcage, a smile ever so present on your lips.

“Good thing I chose you and not Sirius then, isn’t it? He’d stay just trying to shag the whole time.” You joked.

Remus lifted his head to nip at your ear, sending pleasant tingles shooting down your neck. “He might have left me with some ideas.” His voice was low and husky, it took everything you had to keep from melting right there in his lap, until he let out a laugh. “I’m only joking.”

“I’m pretty sure that you’re not.” You smirk. “After all, it’s Sirius Black that we’re talking about. You know, Hogwarts’ very own Casanova.”

Remus shook his head with a smile. “Well, you’re not entirely wrong, but that’s something to be discussed later. Now, it’s time for dinner.” With an arm behind your back, he scooped up your legs and stood swiftly, carrying you out of the common room as you laughed.

While the boys were away, you’d been sleeping with Remus in his bed, the night before Christmas had been no exception. You woke up, tangled in warm sheets, and stretched out all of your limbs. You had been very relaxed and very comfortable, at least until you realized that something very important was missing. “Remus?” You called out, looking around the boys’ dorm as you sat up straight.

He was nowhere to be seen, which had left an uncomfortable pang in your chest. Of all days for him to up and leave you alone, why’d it have to be Christmas? You let out a sigh, wrapping a blanket around yourself, and headed down towards the common room, but once you made it to the bottom step of the boys’ stairs, you stopped, eyes wide, mouth hanging open.

Remus was waiting for you by the large, ornately decorated Christmas tree. He had a table set out, covered in all of your favorite breakfast things; waffles, toast, and hot chocolate with extra marshmallows to name a few. The floor around the tree was littered in gifts, for the both of you, you’d assumed, and there was a small cloud charmed to snow all over everything.

You couldn’t believe your eyes, squeeing loudly, before racing into his arms. “Oh, Remus! How long did it take you to put all of this together? It’s all so perfect, I love it all so much! I love you!” You threw your arms around him, squeezing him tightly to you.

“Perfect?” He asked, pulling back to look into your eyes, a smile pressed gently into his lips.

“It’s better than perfect! So much more than that!” You couldn’t help but to take his warm face in your hands, kissing him hard on the mouth. “This is the best Christmas ever!”

His face was bright red, he had to clear his throat before speaking. “Best ever? Good. I wanted everything to be perfect for you, because you are so much more than perfect for me.”

It honestly felt like your chest was going to explode open, you’d never felt quite as happy as this. “Come, sit, eat!” Remus guided you towards the couch, piling food onto your plate for you. You spent a long minute beaming up at him.

“Happy Christmas, Remus.”

He looked down at you, giving you a look you’d never quite seen on his face before. “Happy Christmas, my love.”
