Laura

Was a dream your reality or was reality a page from your persistent dream?

That was Laura's predicament when she felt herself running. Not sure whether it was to someone or away from somebody.

She ran. Then stopped.

Something was different about her  chase. She didn't feel strange images pursuing her anymore. Infact she felt like she was breathing in a way that made her feel truly alive.

She moved her toes. Most times in this part of the dream, she would be stuck but this time her toes moved. Then her hands.

She no longer felt apprehended in her mind.

She opened her eyes slowly, like she was scared of what they would behold but it was the struggle and solid pain around her forehead that made her chill in anguish.

She moved her brown orbs in a left and right movement which only laminated her headache.

She made attempt to rise but failed. Her body felt extremely heavy and quite surreal. She could feel every inch of her person but couldn't quite get an access to it.

She heard voices and squeals.

Where the hell was she?

Wherever she was, she liked the fragrance. It reminded her of Mama's garden, so nice and lovely. She loved the perfume that strung to her nostrils. It made her relax and it was quick off the mark.

She made another attempt to rise but failed.

Why did she fill so stiff and feeble?

Her head dragged with hurt as she tried to permit every question that formed in her mind.

She decided to call out for help.
Then like she was telepathic. Two women, dressed in a blue top and a white trouser alongside three men with with long white jackets kept calling her something, it sounded like a feminine name but it was so odd.

So it was decided that she was at a hospital and they probably gave their patients nicknames.

That decision only formed another question, why was she in a hospital?

Her head hurt more after every thought.

"Laura, I know you are confused and you have alot of questions. I promise you will get all your answers but I need you to co-operate with us. Okay?" It was a dark-skinned,  gentle - looking man that spoke to her.

She wanted to argue but she sensed she didn't really have a say.

Maybe she did, but in a weird way she trusted this man who smiled with every word he said.

"Okay doctor...?" She tried to get his name from his medical ID badge hanging from his pocket but they were blurry.

She trained her face to look back at him expecting him to relate his identity to her instead she met a perplexed expression.

"It's Doctor Segun. Now hold still and let the nurses check your vitals. I'll be back with your hus....I mean..some people to help you with your questions." She didn't know what Doctor Segun was about to say but he looked dazed and somewhat sad.

She was sure she didn't say anything wrong or was it something she did?

He moved to leave after instructing the nurses, "Administer a mild dose of diclofenac without caffine, a double caplet of acetaminophen 500mg and call on her specialist, I need results now. Jonathan will be here soon." The nurses took down notes of what he said.
