I Was Brave

Avielle POV-

"You are all together beautiful, my love there is no flaw in you." I looked in the mirror and told myself the bible verse Song of Solomon 4:7.

I felt stupid talking to myself in the mirror. I didn't see what it would change, but I was going to try and see.

"What you doing mommy?" Oak came into the bathroom and grabbed my leg.

I picked her up. "Look into the mirror." I told her.

She looked in the mirror, now repeat after me.

"You are.."

"You are..." She repeated after me.

"Beautiful."

"Beautiful."

"There is no flaw."

"There is no flaw."

"In you."

"In you. What that mean?" She inquisitively asked.

"You are perfect the way you are."

"What that mean?"

I laughed. "You know how you like strawberry cheesecake ice cream?"

"Mm-hm. Its very tasty."

"You are tasty like strawberry cheesecake ice-cream. Okay?"

"Mm-hm." She shook her head okay.

"Okay." I kissed her forehead and put her down.

"lets watch Disney Jr. until I get you ready to go over daddys." I helped her up on the bed and turned on the tv.

"Mommy's gonna be in the kitchen for a second okay?"

"Okay." She said, already engrossed in what was on.

I sighed and got my phone and called Aubrey.

"Yo you." I smiled when he appeared on my facetime.

"Don't yo me. I ain't talked to you in a week."

"I know. I know. I just been...Aubrey I really like you. I really do."

He gave me a look like he knew what I was about to say.

"You don't wanna do us. Huh?" He said.

"Its not that I don't want to. Its that I can't. My life is in a lot of transition and I just need to get myself together so I can be the best for Oak and that means focusing on me right now. I hope you understand."

He had a salty look on his face. "Yeah. Whatever you need Avi. Do that."

"Aubrey, please understand its not me just..."

"You know Avi I was serious when I said I wanted us to be a thing. That wasn't game. If you wasn't serious you should've said that from the jump. But whatever. Do you."

"Aubrey."

"I gotta go."

Click. He hung up on me.

I sighed. I was hoping he understood, but I could understand his irritation. Either way, I had to do what I had to do.

I got up and looked through my box of letters. I closed my eyes and had the impulse to put them back.

"Be brave Avi." I got the first letter I wrote out.

It was still sealed and addressed to him. With my return address from Spain.

I put the other letters up, got Oak and myself ready, and headed to O's.

I knocked on the door.

"Hey Footlose." Dontae came to the door smacking on a bowl of cereal he had in his hands.

"Uncle Dontae." Oak ran to his legs excited and hugged him.

"What up Tweety." He patted her head.

"Me missed you."

"Well guess what, me did not miss you and that big head." He ate so more cereal.

She punched him in the leg, then ran laughing.

"What the..." he looked back shocked.

I laughed. "Where's O?"

"At the gym." He said eating.

"Oh you know when he'a gonna be back."

"In a few. He probably gon drop his girl off, then he'll be back."

"Oh." I just felt all the confidence leave me.

"You need something?" Dontae asked.

"Oh no. I'm fine. Here's..."

O walked in pass me. "Ladybug."

"Pop-Pop." She said excited and ran into his arms.

He picked her up. "I love you."

"Love you too." She hugged him.

"Ugh you're wet." She said disgusted.

He laughed. "I know. That's sweat. I gotta take a shower. But for now. Here's some for you." He wiped sweat from his head on her head.

"Stop." She laughed. He put her down.

"Watch her while I take a shower." He told Dontae then walked in his room and closed the door.

Dontae waved his hand in front of my face.

"What are you doing?" I asked annoyed.

"Seeing if you invisible cause he just curbed yo ass. What you do to him?" He said chomping on cereal.

"I'm hungry." Oak told Dontae, pulling on his pants.

"Tell yo mama."

"But you eating." She told him. "Gimme some."

"Girl I don't know where you flappy lips been." He made a disgusted look.

"Gimme some." She yelled.

"Who you yellin at Tweety?"

"You. I'm hungry." She whined.

"Fine." He conceded and went to fix her a bowl.

I probably shouldn't have done this, but I went in O's room.

His pile of clothes were on the floor and I heard the shower running in his bathroom.

Be brave Avi. If he accepts it fine. If not whatever. But be brave.

I sat the letter on his bed and left out.

"Stop trying to get free looks of my brother naked." Dontae said when I came out.

Him and Oak were on the couch eating cereal.

"Whatever. Y'all have fun. Bye baby." I kissed Oak and left.

Whatever he thinks, he thinks. But today, for the first time in a long time, I was brave.

Now off to drown my nervousness in a very heavy drink.

Can I just say that I love each and everyone of you. I literally be posting late sometimes, when yall lil ass should be in bed preparing for school and yall read.
