Guilt and Fear-The Untold story of Zira

chapter nineteen: Sarafina's point of view

Mheetu and Nala ran around the cave, acting like the cubs that they were. After Upendo had passed, it had only been a few days until Sarafina's son Mheetu was born. He was strong, like his father, and had gentle blue eyes so light that they almost looked silver. He had a small tuft of fur on his head and his fur color looked exactly like Sarafina's.

Zira had been staying at pride rock for a few weeks after the attack to take time for her leg to heal. While she was there, she and Sarabi had helped in every way they could with Nala and Mheetu, bringing Sarafina necessities and helping just by being there as she mourned her mate's loss.

Mheetu had honestly never known his father, so he had no idea what he was like, what he looked like, anything about him. The only thing that he had to rely on to be true were the things that his mother and sister had told him. He really wanted to know who his father was. And then, there were the nightmares.

They honestly started out amazing, he would be playing with Nala, when out of nowhere, a hyena pounced and grabbed his sister, running away with her afterwards. Nala would cry Mheetu's name, and he would run after the hyena, refusing to let his sister go without a fight. Coming to almost the border of the outlands and the pridelands, the hyena stopped, placing Nala down and starting to circle around her. Nala was badly hurt from being snatched and carried by the hyena. The hyena raised her paw and slashed down on Nala. Mheetu tried to run towards his sister and save her, but he couldn't move!!! The hyena struck again, and Mheetu did everything he could to try to save Nala. The hyena brought up her paw a third time, but before she could strike again, a massive lion with a dark brown pelt, a darker brown mane, and dark blue eyes pounced on the hyena, driving her away from Nala. Mheetu would then see his mother's friend Zira grab Nala and start to run off as the lion and hyena fought. The hyena somehow got away from the lion and dug her teeth into Zira's leg, causing her to trip and drop Nala. The hyena made an effort to grab her, but the older lion pounced again, leaving Zira time to grab Nala and run back to the pridelands.

Mheetu would then look back at the battle, seeing the hyena having the upper paw, as she clamped her jaws down on the lion's neck. They wrestled more as the lion struggled for his life, but then the lion just went limp. He wasn't moving or breathing, and his eyes were glassy. The hyena would then get off of him, blood on her teeth...then she would turn around, noticing Mheetu. He still couldn't move, leaving him to stand there in fear and watch as the hyena ran towards him, her jaws open. She would then pounce...and that's when he usually woke up.

Mheetu had been having that same nightmare for a while, now, and Sarafina was starting to get worried. She knew that Kinga was still out there, but she didn't know if she was plotting to get back at them, which she most likely was. Sarafina saw Mheetu as Upendo, and Nala was a mix of both of her parents, so she saw Upendo in both of them. She couldn't bear to think about what may happen if she lost either of them.

Sadly, this wouldn't be the most grief Sarafina has felt. Much more suffering was coming, and no one was prepared for it.
