I wake up what I think is three o'clock, but when I look around it is bright out.
I slept all night! I can't believe he let me sleep all night!
I look across from me and see that Ash is also asleep, at least he got some rest.
Gently I shake him awake, "Come on, we have to get onto our feet again."
He groans and says, "Five more minutes, mom."
When he says this I can't help but laugh, "This is Jessamine Cicely, your best friend, not your mom, Clary."
After I say that he opens his eyes, "Oh, sorry about that."
"It's okay," I say smiling. "what time did you fall asleep? I just woke up five minutes ago."
"I fell asleep around three I think."
"That okay, we should split a slice of pizza before we start walking again." I say and he agrees.
We left the bags at the bottom of the tree so if we had to leave and go somewhere else quickly we wouldn't have to worry about crushing anything on our way down.
We could just jump down, grab the stuff, then run.
When we get back down on to solid ground I take out the bag full of pizzas and split one of the eight slices.
Every time I hear a twig snap or the bushes move I get paranoid and keep looking in that direction until I have convinced myself that it was just the wind or an animal.
The pizza was filling enough to keep us going until lunch so we quickly gather our things then keep walking hoping to find another town we could possibly buy more food at.
We only have twelve dollars so we have to buy very cheap things.
There is nothing you can buy that will last long enough to keep a human alive or from starving for two weeks.
I hear more shuttering from behind, "I think someone is following us." I whisper to Ash.
He nods and we hide behind a bush hoping that it was just a false alarm.
I am too scared to move or breath, I don't even blink. I feel like the slightest move can give away our hiding spot and ruin our lives.
My body is so still that if you saw me most people would think I am a very realistic statue.
We sit here for a while until we see a police officer running past us then says something on this walkie talkie, "No sign of them here, Sir, I am reporting bad to the station now."
I do not talk or breath until I am positive he is out of ear shot, "That was a close one." I whisper to Ash and we slowly stand up from our hiding spot and run as fast and quietly away from there as we can.
When we stop I am out of breath completely.
I see some small buildings in the distance so I think we are getting closer to another town, it has been two days since the police attempted to arrest us so most of New York has probably heard of us by now so we have to be even more cautious of our surroundings.
Ash takes out the sunglasses we found and put them on, and we put on the hats we found.
We take a deep breath then take another step forward hoping that this won't be our last stop towards Canada, our new home.
